what's the difference between axicon rainbow and crystal rainbow?

I purchased the crystal patterned one and it comes with a plastic axicon patterned cardboard like prism. The patterns they make when the direct sunlight hits them are exactly the same.

The rainbow lens is a laminate of two pieces of glass.

Is there any reason this can't be hung outside from a tree branch?

NO! of course you can hang outdoors but if you do and it gets wet it will be ruined. water is able to seep into the frame and between the glass panes....never to dry and be the same beautiful suncatcher. i just got my 5 year old suncatcher wet and have to order a new one now, bummer!
