A 'Go to' book on the cell's energy converter
I've read this book several times now and as with any well designed and informative text I find something I missed on an earlier reading uncovers itself. This really is a deeply satisfying read. It can't be described as being highly technical if you have some basic biology already. The author covers all the main areas on the subject.Firstly there is the origin of the mitochondria which became bonded to its human host millions of years in the past. Probably they stem from a bacterial source. They seem to find human cells a gratifying residence. Mitochondrial DNA contains 37 genes, all of which are essential for normal mitochondrial function.Next we cover how these subcellular organelles work and the biochemistry that allows them to function as energy conversion units, helping to run the Krebs cycle and more. What happens when cells age is deeply connected to mitochondrial activity. So many diseases have been linked to cell malfunction due to mitochondrial disorders. These illnesses include Alzheimers, Parkinson's and other CNS diseases. There are also links to chronic illnesses that cover most of the vital organs as all rely on energy conversion from conception until our lifecycle ends. They really are vital to human health and longevity. If you want to learn more, this book will reward you and provide a sound basis for further learning for years to come.

Mon médecin m'a emprunté.

amazing book
amazing book , very informative, if you want to understand or improve your mitochondrial function and energy production you can not expect a traditional doctor to understand much of it, you need to do it yourself, and this is a great starting point

It's not nearly as dry and hard to read as you might think!
Was not looking forward to reading this but guilt made me pull it off the bookshelf and get going. While it's not a subject that everyone would 'enjoy' I found it really well written, really thoughtfully put together and love the practitioner sections that kept cropping up. Have recommended the book to everyone on my nutrition course. Thank you

Understanding the Role of Mitochondria- Your Key to Long Term Good Health
This is an excellent book that breaks down and explains all aspects of the mitochondria. If you liked Lee Know's book: Mitochondria and the Future of Medicine, you will appreciate this one. This book does a thorough job explaining how disease results from mitochondria malfunction and what life style changes can be made to improve one's health, thus avoiding toxic drugs as a first line of defense.
