The -320 i just received feels scratchy. is there some adjustment i need to make in my writing style? my cheaper harder nib pens seem smoother to me.

Not sure. Might depend on the size of your nib. My fine is stiff but very smooth. Wider nibs are smoother. If it is still scratchy with anything other than EF, consider sending it back for adjustment.
