WiebeTech Forensic UltraDock V4 - Storage controller - IDE / SATA-150 - FireWire / FireWire 800 / Hi-Speed USB / eSATA

About 1 month ago, i bought this item through a reseller from amazon.com;I start to connect it to my PC just following ths instructions;1. The PC does not recognize the device, so i can not use it to check out hard disks.2. Trying to email the Website, and they respond me only once, but no suggestions whatsoever to solutions.3. email them 3 tims already, without a response; now i have this small machine , about 200 box, and without functioning and a very bad customer service at their website. ;I do not recommend anyone to buy this product.Thanks ;JDC

The tech support staff and service at Wiebetech are very good, and I am sorry to say that this device, while promising, is problematical.Because Wiebetech includes the power supply and all the connections with the unit. The Wiebetech write blocker looks like a great alternative to the Tableau as it is more than $100 cheaper. Unfortunately, the SATA connection works and blocks but is too slow. Just for example last week I acquired two hard drives at the same time. To acquire one I used Encase with Fastbloc SE. At the same time I acquired another SATA drive that was half the size using the Wiebetech write blocker. The larger drive was acquired is less time. In my office, we have benchmarked the Wiebetech write blocker next to the Tableau write blocker. We consistently get results that the Tableau write blocker is twice as fast.If you do an occasional acquisition or do most acquisitions in the office without time contraints then this write blocker is fine. However, if you go into the field to do acquisitions, you are going to want to be done in the fastest possible time. I can't get the full use out of this write blocker because I can't use it for large drives and under time constraints. It is relegated to a secondary write blocker for smaller drives. I wish that I had not bought it.

Item was received as was advertised, and I am happy the quality and with the price, and would purchase again.

I own both an UltraDock v4 and an earlier model (DriveDock v4). They work great assuming you are comfortable working with bare drives (drives without an enclosure that would normally go inside your computer).
