Since most of the complaints are about the wristband. Is there anything out that you can use with the wristband to keep you from losing it?

No. there is no face on the fitbit. It is completely blank unless you tap it to see your activity progress which shows up as little lights.

isn't there a recall on the FitBit

The newest model is called The a Force and it has been recalled because the clasp contains a metal that creates a rash on the arm of the wearer. I have the Fex and the One which are older models which have not had any problems. The Force is not for sale now and it has been recalled by the manufacturer.
