I live in a rural area. Will this indoor antenna work to boost my radio signals?

If you live within about 35 miles of the FM transmission tower, you should see a noticeable improvement. My FM Tuner comes without an antenna. I've tried outdoor FM antennas but they were a pain to get positioned correctly. The TERK works very well and you don't have to reposition it to get a better signal.

How does this antenna work? My receiver came with the wire antenna.

If your wire antenna can be removed, and the port it attaches to on the receiver looks a little like a cable TV hookup OR two screw in wires - then this antenna will work with your receiver. This antenna boots the signal received, but be aware it is an active antenna - which means that you will need to have it plugged into electricity for it to work.

Can I put short extension (say 6 or 8 feet) on the wire from the tower in the window to the radio near my bed? What kind of wire for the extension?

Yes but ... You need to use 75 ohm coaxial cable with a female "F" connector on one end and a male "F" connector on the other. You'll have trouble finding a thin cable like the one used in the antenna but you can find cables used for cable TV (RG-6/U). They are almost 1/4" in diameter and pretty stiff, but they will work You'll probably only fine one with male connectors on both ends and will have to add a double male connector.
