Dim but long lasting
I charged the 600 lumen lantern for 24 hours, then set it on bright and started the clock. About 24 hours later the battery light went from steady green (75-100% charged) to blinking green (40-75% charged). At 48 hours it went from red (10-49% charged) to blinking red (less than 10%). The light lasts longer than claimed on maximum brightness. Below is probably why.I tested the brightness with a light meter. The measurements vary by a factor of 2 or 4 or more depending on the angle so I used the highest readings. The output was less than half what an old comparison 40W incandescent bulb put out and less than 1/3 of what my old 60W incandescent bulb put out. Better than a candle, but not enough to read by. Good enough if you just need to be able to see the surroundings. The claimed 600 lumens should have a brightness between the 40W and 60W bulbs and it falls far short.

A necessity in the mountains
I live in an area where the power is out constantly due to falling trees, crazy high winds, and heavy rains. My family typically can get by with just a couple of these lanterns. The day I bought them I plugged them in to get the charge up before use/storage but coincidentally the power went out after these had only charged about 5 hours and they worked fantastic already. I've now had to use these in about 6 power outages and couldn't find a single complaint. I haven't fully tested the 500 hour capability but I can tell you the power was out at my house for 5 days and 3 adults were able to use these on low setting to get around the house as well as charge cell phones and neither lantern was showing any sign of slowing down. They do seem a little pricey but they have been a life saver for me enough times now that they are more than worth it. They seem well built, are REALLY bright on the high setting and have more than enough battery life. Also as an FYI the low setting is more than bright enough to get anything done in a dark cabin such as ours

Well designed, solid and VERY functional
Very awesome light (lantern) It is much smaller than a typical Colemen-like lantern but to my surprise, it is much brighter than any Coleman lanterns I've used over the years and much less delicate. It feels very solid and premium and has 3 light levels (Low Medium & High I suppose) with a nice discernible difference between each. The lumens is high on these which means very bright light. To put it in an understandable way, on the high setting you DO NOT want to look directly into the light. It has that immediate blinding effect. The medium setting also does that but not quite as intense but pretty bright! Actually the low setting is at a level I will avoid direct eye contact as well but not as intense as medium and high. Rest assured, I'm a lifetime camper/backpacker and Coleman user and this light is very adequate for any situation. It also has an SOS setting which is a terrific feature, certainly if the need for it arises. There is the red light setting for those "side of the road situations" that we've all experienced. It is red and, though not anywhere near the brightness of the white light, it seems quite adequate for it's purpose and it also has an SOS setting. The buttons and the interface to navigate the various light options are clever, yet intuitive and well done and they too collectively, have that premium feel to them. Overall, this is an excellent, premium device (reflected by the price) that would be great for just about anyone. Remember always!.......we get what we pay for and, so far I really feel like I got my money's worth. We do not yet know about the product's longevity but thanks to Amazon's "easy to edit reviews", I can and will modify this post as necessary or as ample time passes.

WOW it works
Received this lantern a day earlier than expected. Plugged it in and charged overnight. Next day turned on the brightest setting and let it run. After 58 hours it was still running but the low power led was flashing. I turned the lantern off even though the instructions say it will turn off automatically so as to not damage the lithium battery. Plugged it in again overnight and turned it on to bright and let it run. After 56 hours it was still running with the low power led flashing. Had to go out for about 6 hours and the light was out when I returned. Did not try the lower settings but I assume they will run for the published time if the highest setting worked.Purchased this lantern for power outages and it appears it will go the distance. A nice feature is the built-in USB charger for all the USB devices.Recharging and putting it away for the next power outage.

Very bright rechargeable lantern
This is a great lantern although it is pricey. It is very long lasting (MUCH more so than most others), is very bright, has several brightness settings. Since it is rechargeable rather than battery operated, you will have a working lantern during a power failure as long as you recharge it every 6 months or so. We would usually pull out the lantern and the batteries would be dead pretty much every time. AND, you don't have to buy any more batteries. You can even charge your phone off it if need be.
