NOW Foods Supplements, L-Cysteine 500 mg with Vitamins B-6 and C, Structural Support*, 100 Tablets

I don't think that science has fully confirmed this, but my impression is that this supplement helps a lot with hangovers. In my experience, it won't really prevent them, but it does seem to help avoid catastrophic hangovers from a really big night. I used to get 36-hour hangovers sometimes and those don't ever seem to happen if I take at least one of these at the beginning and the end of the night. So I keep these around mostly for that purpose, but they might possibly have some other benefits. It tastes pretty bad so don't let it linger in your mouth before swallowing. It's smooth and about the size of a multivitamin so it goes down easy. The theory that led me to this is that this supplement helps your body metabolize acetaldehyde. With a balanced diet, it probably doesn't do much, but in brief periods of having a very unbalanced diet, like a bachelor/bachelorette party, I think it helps. And I've definitely never experienced any side effects from taking this supplement, so I consider it cheap insurance.

I purchased this supplement to help keep my intestines health. I am pleased with results. Helped my digestive system get on a consistent daily cycle. Great price, quantity, quality tablets are a little large but still easy to swallow.

When I was 20's(Now middle of 30's), I heard it can clear facial tone. That's the reason why I purchased it. I don't know it is working as I believed but I am still use this habitually. The tablet is yellowish than I started. But It obviously make stomach pain after using so PLEASE TAKE THIS PILL AFTER EAT SOMETHING.

I used this supplement to help with acne scars and hyperpigmentation. This brand is my trusted brand of supplements for a while. The tablet is kinda big. I already used it for 1.5 months and have seen some improvement in some particular areas, so to me, it is quite effective and functional. It is tasteless. I’m still looking to see its brightening effect, but so far nothing is visible yet. I will update my review when more things come to light.

I've suffered a few years of increasingly horrible hangovers -- from even as low alcohol usage as 2-3 beers. It got worse over time to the extent that if I had 4 beers (or glasses of wine, or similar amount of alcohol) _even over a course of whole evening_ I would have been severly ill the following day -- and usually only starting in the afternoon. Now, I'm 186cm/85kg (about 6'1"/around 190lbs) guy and in my 20's, early 30's had no issues with clearly higher alcohol consumption so I was quite surprised about this. I have asked a number of doctors about this over the course of the past few years and it's left some puzzled and some worried. My liver values, etc health indicators that have been tested all showed normal. Nothing seemed out of ordinary. So, a friend of mine recommended L-Cysteine with advice to take one tablet before drinking any alcohol and possibly another after every 4-5 drinks to ensure L-Cysteine level stays high enough in the body. This would handle the acetaldehyde in alcohol and what created in the burning of alcohol in liver. I first tried a cough medicine (yes, you read correct) that has acetylcysteine, which also tackles acetaldehyde albeit in a slightly different way. To my huge surprise it worked. With around 12 drinks over the course of a long evening and night I had practically zero hangover the next day (counting out slight tiredness, which was to be expected simply from going to sleep late). But there was no throwing up involved, not for the whole afternoon, not "even" once -- which had become a norm with all alcohol consumption at/above 4 drinks. Since the initial experience I've tested L-Cysteine in two different forms: This NOW Foods tablet as well as a capsule from a Finnish biotech company (http://www.acetium.com/) and both have worked in described above. (I should add that taking vitamin B6 was also recommended to me in conjunction to taking L-Cysteine so I've taken that separately both with Acetium and acetylcysteine whereas in this NOW Foods tablet it's included). I have to say that it's been a sort of a "life changer" to me that I've been able to drink alcohol again without having to think most of the next day that I might die. Perhaps having gotten this prolonged experience of being sensitive to alcohol was also a good thing as it certainly did reduce my consumption of alcohol quite significantly (which has continued after finding help from L-Cysteine) as I do rather well understand that even higher end moderate levels of alcohol usage does increase various health risks. But it's also quite nice that I don't need to fret about normal dinner drinks -- and it's also nice to be able to have a "thorough night out" sometimes w/out totally wrecking the next day. Finally, I want to point out that while there is a lot of information out there on this topic the above-noted http://www.acetium.com is a good site for focused and research-based information about this all.

This product is a commodity supplement delivered in a pill bottle. I bought this product for price and convenience at Amazon. I am disappointed because the source of the product ingredients is not reported and the nation of origin where the pills are produced is not revealed. These are not USP certified. There is a "GMP" label on the bottle (see zoomed in picture) which isn't very impressive to a smart supplement shopper. ———— Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is the part of quality assurance (QA) which aimed toward ensuring manufactured pharmaceutical products are consistently produced and controlled to the quality standards appropriate for their intended use and as required by governments. GMP is a process monitoring activity primarily used to mitigate the two principal risks inherent in pharmaceutical production: cross contamination/ingredient mix-ups and incorrect product labeling. ————— For all we know, these are bottles filled from a large hopper of pills delivered in bulk from a manufacturer in South Asia or perhaps PRC China. I'm unimpressed with the product beyond its value-effective price and the convenience of Amazon Prime delivery. I think this is an adequate product. The tablets themselves are very large oval pills that seem about 21mm long (size of a Nickle) and perhaps 6mm thick. These are my estimates. Some folks may need a pill crusher or cutter to reduce the size for easier swallowing.

Good product

The only L-Cysteine available out there that is combined with other Vitamins important for skin health such as C and B-6. So far satisfied. I wish the individual piece was a bit smaller.
