Alaskan Ulu Knife

Got this knife as a gift for my father. He enjoys to cook and love new kitchen gadgets. I saw a lady from Alaska on TikTok use one to cut whale meat. Let’s just say I was exceptionally impressed. My father love this knife and state this knife is the sharpest knife he has ever had. This ulu knife cuts the toughest meat like butter. This is a MUST HAVE.

I can't seem to go a day without using this knife. I don't have a clue how the Inuits used it, given its history for being handy preparing seal and other marine wildlife, but I use it every day. For me, it's better than a food processor. I use it for slicing/cutting vegetables, mincing herbs, cutting pizza - and a number of other things. I love that it rocks around doing its work in a rounded bowl (it's also called a rocker knife), making my work SO easy and a lot safer. It's a perfect gift, too.

This is a very good looking ulu knife. It is not a hand forged authentic ulu, but it's a lot cheaper. It will cut and chop most meat, vegetables and fruit very easily, but not frozen food or bone. If you just want to display this it'll look good, and you can still chop something up with it if you need to.

The Alaskan Ulu Knife works well from the get-go and is an easy tool for everyone to use. It is also safe because of the top of the blade serving as the handle and the rocking motion to cutting something. We received it as a gift and love it. We also gave it as gifts and received the same appreciative reaction.

I love this! I watch "Live Below Zero" all the time and did a Google search to find out what kind of "thing" Agnes Hailstone was using when cutting up moose and other meat. THIS is it. I immediately ordered one and have been using it ever since. I didn't go for the more expensive one because, after all, I am not cutting up moose....but this one works great for what I do. Very glad I bought it.

Around 15 years ago I bought a ulu knife while visiting Alaska. It showed no signs of wear despite almost daily use. A couple of months ago it mysteriously disappeared, probably inadvertently into the trash. Its replacement, which recently arrived via UPS, had a similar look but it seemed like both the handle and the blade were less substantial -- they seemed to weigh less and the handle did not seem as fixed to the blade as the old ulu. But the shape is identical and just as sharp. A ulu is a very handy thing to have, and this one is performing as well as the original despite its lower heft. We wouldn't be without one, and if this one were to mysteriously disappear, we would not hesitate to order another through Amazon.

Based upon other readers' comments, I decided to purchase this knife. I'm glad I did. In the meantime, I ordered another Ulu knife directly from a Ulu factory in Anchorage. This gave me the opportunity to compare different variations of this knife. After experimenting, I decided that this knife was the better of the two. I like how the grip is set up on this knife. I will also say that this knife is sharp and be aware of what you're cutting as to not to nick or cut yourself. I'm sure, in time, I'll have the art of Ulu cutting down pat!PROS: Quality built, handle is sturdy, knife is sharpCONS: None noted. Amazon should advertise the knife sharpener with this knife. The sharpness is on the one side of the blade and it takes a special sharpener (or a sharpening stone) to do this.

I LOVE THIS KNIFE. I HAVE ARTHRITIS AND FIND IT DIFFICULT TO USE PLAIN KNIVES. THIS ONE IS EASIER FOR ME TO USE AND DOES A GREAT JOB WITHOUT A LOT OF PRESSURE.
