Perfect shaved ice. Easy. Lightweight & Portable.
A cheap, portable non-electric model I bought for under $14. It's perfect for taking to the park with friends and sharing ice on hot days. I also reach for it, constantly, at home. Of course it can make perfect snowcones (the ice is snow-perfect) - but I use it for iced lemonade slushees, coconut milk/mung bean sweet treats; iced coffee drinks etc.The plastic sides are light weight because they're attached to a firm base/top. The hole design on the sides help grasp the unit during shaving AND transport. The manufacturer generously provides THREE lidded ice molds. The lids allow for stacking. They're not airtight but help prevent spills & keep freezer odors out. TIP: Freeze a bunch of ice molds and store them.Be sure to remove the plastic 'guard' from the blades on top. And don't put the plastic mold of ice into the container, remove the ice from the mold. (Who would EVER make that silly error?). Eh, hem. Moving on.I can see why cubes would be harder to shave than the flat surfaced, circular disk of ice that is created when you use the machine's ice mold.I have had problems with the upper blade penetrating the upper portion of the ice mold, but per other reviews, it appears to be my unit only. This may have something to do with *someone* having accidently put the whole plastic mold into the container. Eh hem. So, while a tad inconvenient, it's easily fixed. The shaving works well at first, but then suddenly stops. Whenever it stops, I just reach in and flip the ice over at which point it works again. I repeat process until it's all shaved & gone. It's a bit more inconvenient but I take the blame for this negative...plus it was easily fixed, and didn't require an engineering degree or appliance repair expertise.

This is the magic I didn't know I needed
I love shave ice. Truly, I love anything that is cloud-like in texture. Basically, I dream of eating clouds.I purchased this on a whim as it had appeared on my suggested items. I excitedly showed it to my partner, and he was like "well, at that price you might as well try it."It comes with 4 little containers to freeze perfectly shaped iced- These really make it so easy. The ice pops out of the container effortlessly and fits neatly into the apparatus. The crank is easy to turn and does not take much effort at all. The delicate shaved ice the machine produces is the powdery texture of freshly fallen snow (to produce this texture, the ice block must still be very frozen.)One ice block produces approximately 2.5 to 3 bowls full of shave ice. It's a delight! I'm obsessed! I find myself making shave ice after dinner as a little treat 2 to 3 times a week. I have yet to freeze anything other than water but I'm planning on steeping some very strong tea and freezing it as well as potentially some milk.Tldr; it's great. Bought it on a whim and holy balls, I did not expect to love it this much.
