A breath of fresh air from...the Late 80s?
I listened to the Pogues when I was in college back in the late 80s; although I liked their CDs a lot, the explosion of World Music kinda dissuaded me from listening to them again for almost a decade.I recently found "If I Should Fall from Grace with God" and "Hell's Ditch" and began to listen to them continuously for several weeks before I ordered "Peace and Love" from amazon, wanting to hear more of their stuff. The Pogues really were a great band -- I'm not that much an afficinado to understand why McGowan left -- but I enjoy these 3 CDs for qualities which, to me, are absent in most of the music today: the diversity of their writing, the vibrancy of their musicanship, their gusto, and the emotional impact (like a bombshell) some of their best songs have. On this CD, I find myself drawn into their worlds with songs like "Gridlock", "Down All the Days", "Lorelei", "Cotton Fields" and "Blue Heaven"."If I Should Fall from Grace with God" is probably their best album and one which would merit 4 **** stars from me -- but "Peace and Love" is up with 3.

Dissapointed in the Vinyl 2013 mix
I bought Vinyl thinking it would be an improvement over the CD version, which is usually the case. However the mixing and possibly the pressing of this version (2013 mix) Is not up to the CD version

yeah
Not their masterpiece but enjoyable. Couple of bonus tracks are better than many album tracks.

Pogue's Peace & Love
I got this because my grandson recommended it. For my generation (I'm 89), it was interesting, and worthwhile to learn what tha gernation likes to listen to, but for me, not my first choice of music.

Give Peace a Chance
Like a brawl in an Irish Pub just before closing time, Peace an Love is back in print! Of course this is NOT intended as a comment on the current administration, but I say: give "Peace and Love" a chance....:), go on....try it, it will make your day....

Pogue Mahone
Set against the refreshing & colorful musical landscape painted by the first three albums, The Pogues’ 1989 follow-up to career-highlight ‘If I should fall from Grace with God’ is a lackl-ustre affair. There is scant evidence here of real fire-in-the-belly, or the riotous energy of the band’s earlier output. The reason usually cited is McGowan’s increasingly erratic behavior, often so drunk/hung-over he would fail to turn up for performances or recording sessions. The album does however contain some OK tunes. ‘White City’ & ‘Misty Morning Albert Bridge’ (penned by Jem Finer) are elegies to London neighborhoods (some people erroneously believe the Pogues to be an Irish band; in fact they were quintessentially a London punk band with some Irish connections), and the catchy calypso-like ‘Blue Heaven’ redolent of ‘Fiesta’ on IIsffGwG. Philip Chevron, Terry Woods and Daryl Hunt all variously step up to the plate and share the writing/singing duties part-vacated by Shane’s decline into non-productivity.The band had a brief revival of form on the subsequent ‘Hell’s Ditch’ but unfortunately ‘Peace & Love’ remains a low-point of the McGowan years.

New remix not great (Vinyl version)
Certainly not the best Pogues album but this remix by Steve Lilywhite doesn't help at all. I don't understand why it needed remixing, Shane's vocal were buried for a reason. Also what happened to the bass drum? It sounds really horrible and flappy on this. Sorry Steve.

Three Stars
Really rather over-hyped. Shane is prominent in his absence here.
