I ordered this replacement for an old PS3 that I have. This is the 1st time I replaced something on a PS3, I have dealt with PC repairing so not saying I didn't have experience dealing with something like this. The PS3 was not reading discs, it would turn ON and everything else worked but the drive. After researching online, yes I have say YouTube was a lot of help with about 6 videos I watched and of course the ppl that made them. I took the PS3 apart and check drive ribbons and power supply seemed to be working so I ordered this piece to replace laser drive. I swapped the drive fairly easy with no problem, now when I bought the drive the seller states that is a new product but there were some flags that tells me may not be a new piece. The ribbon that comes with the drive had some tape glue pieces on the ribbon, when I removed the old piece there is a tape that prevents the ribbon from moving around so this is why I think it was not new since the new piece had glue from a tape just were the tape was on the old piece. Now, I gave 5 stars since it could also mean the seller tested the part put a tape on the ribbon to help from movement. If this was the case great if not well the drive works after getting it installed I just hope that it lasts if wasn't new. Some piece of advised make sure you check for gear alignment, there are several YouTube videos that can help you with this. I did not check for gear alignments and thought it was the laser. I realized the disc was not spinning with the news drive laser replacement so I checked the gears, again YouTube ppl to check if disks spin with PS3 not being completely assemble but with power ON, and began to take the gears apart. PLEASE be careful when messing around with gears make sure you know or have at least watched some training videos before taking on this task. If you brake a gear or don't know where it goes it will be difficult to get this to work so there you have it you've been warned. The gears on my drive were not aligned so after I put back ti its normal way hit the jackpot and disc spins and now everything works. I believe the old laser drive still works but the gears were not aligned correctly, I read this happens a lot with the gears after using the system for several times. I did not want to keep messing around with the system since I got it to work so I did not checked the old piece to find out if works or not but I saved it in case something happens to the laser later.

Worked like a charm!, took long to arrive

As soon as I unpacked it I noticed a hole about a millimeter in diameter in the main data ribbon. Hoping that the vendor had at least tested the unit before shipping it and that the severed connection was unimportant to operation, I went ahead and installed it. Unfortunately, the hole was a killer and I had to return the unit for a refund. I will give the vendor credit for the RMA process as there were no glitches there.

Thank Goodness for this product. We purchased this just about a year ago and it is still going strong. We thought for sure our playstation 3 was a goner. My family was so upset, that we most likely would not be able to purchase a new one for quite awhile due to the money. I was nervous spending money on this and it possibly being a waste, if we couldn't figure out how to do it ourselves. But thankfully, it was pretty easy. We just watched you tube and had it walk us through how to do it. So instead of paying 300. bucks to replace our PS3 we only had to pay $27.36!! Hooray! Thank you BrainyTrade!

not really easy to find spare parts to replace a PS3 (mine got flooded), this one was really helpful, now all I have to do is to wait for the last spare part to get my kids' console up&runing again. Great stuff and good service.

so far working well. take your time doing it. you can find some decent tutorials on youtube. took me about 2hrs but I did it while watching tv. Update: this product didn't last. Started to fail after minimal use of my ps3.

I had to replace my laser because i left my ps3 on pause for to many hours. it burned out. this one was easy to install. the ribbon wires need to be lined up perfectly. and you need to make sure you get the correct laser according to modle number.
