This Totoro cup and saucer set is a very high quality item, made from strong bone china and of a good size, packaged in a sturdy Noritake gift box. It is lushly decorated both outside and inside the cup, and all around the saucer in beautiful autumnal tones comprising leaves, berries, and naturally, your favourite Totoro characters, along with a smiling Cat Bus and soot sprites aplenty. Great for big kids, and very special for smaller ones to treasure.

So, this is my most expensive tea cup... ever. And I have some pretty, inherited Wedgwood and Lenox china. That said, I am a huge Miyazaki fan and when I started to drink tea on a regular basis, this expense felt worth it. If we do a "price per cup of tea" thing, I am already down to about $11.50 a use because I've used the cup and saucer for two pots of tea since receiving the package 5 hours ago! And every single sip has brought me a tiny rush of happiness! The experience of opening the cardboard to see the well-made, green Noritake box was a little thrilling. The box is something nice enough you will probably want to keep it. It's thick, sturdy, made of nice material and has a little Totoro label on the middle of the lid. The only thing lacking is I would have liked the interior of the box to be lined with padded velveteen or satin. I think I will add this modification to make this a better storage box. Then you get to the cup and saucer themselves. They are so fine, so delicate-feeling but they are bone china so they should be long-lasting with care. The drawings are so beautifully detailed, just like they are depicted in the store photos, but better in your hand! And since there are images inside and outside the cup, you will see the beloved Totoro - surrounded by gorgeous foliage! - with each sip of tea. Aside from wishing the interior of the storage box were nicer than bubble wrap and cardboard sheets - my only regret is that this is not available in a set with all the other Totoro cups and saucers, and a tea pot!! Kiki's Noritake set has a tea pot, but although it is also very pretty - there isn't as much detail or variety as with the Totoro cups. There is a tiny image of Jiji and then some traditional china patterning. It comes in pink or blue. So, for my Totoro cup I have purchased a goldenrod colored 24oz tea pot: FORLIFE Curve 24-Ounce Teapot with Infuser, Mandarin . They call it "Mandarin" but it's a bit more mustardy/goldenrod to me. And it goes very well with the autumnal colors in this cup and saucer set. :-) So, at ~$50-70, is this worth it? If you are a fan and a collector AND a tea drinker-- I would say yes, for certain. I am hoping to get the other Totoro seasons, soon. But for now this is all I could justify, since it was my favorite of the 4 or 5 versions I saw online. :-) Please note, although the supplied images are very accurate, I have taken a couple quick photos of the set. A couple show the saucer/cup set next to a 24oz tea pot and the other shows me holding it so you get a feel for the sizing. For reference I have an average-sized ladies hand. Hope this helps and you enjoy this gorgeous set-- or giving this gorgeous set to someone, because I guarantee any Totoro+tea fan will swoon over this. :D

Great quality, the pictures are very accurate. The box itself is very nice and sturdy as well, so that's a bonus gift. Got it for a friend and it goes through a lot of use, still looks great. Just get it, you know you want it.
