brilliantly, I might add
This review covers ALL of the music books in this piano solo jazz series that I've purchased....I think 10 titles so far. Here's the deal ... I have played piano for 58 years (since I was 5) ... and I am an extremely proficient sight reader of music. The flip side is...even after so many years...I cannot play by ear, or improvise at all. Not the least bit. And I've always said:If only some arranger could write down improvisational riffs, and jazz chords, and other clever things, I could play it by reading it.Guess what, folks? These books do that....brilliantly, I might add. These books have given me a new lease on my piano playing life.I'm at the keyboard all the time now. LOVE these books!

Music From The Movies
A good section of tunes well arranged. "Alfie", "As Time Goes By", and "The Way You Look Tonight" are my favorites. There are some tunes that appear in other volumes of this series, like "Days of Wine and Roses" and "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To", but to the arrangers credit, they are arranged differently which is kind of unexpected and very cool.

Good Voicings...and perhaps Vibrations.
Nice thoughtful voicings, and arrangements, with the caveat that I have not played through them all, but so far am impressed. As an addendum, I, as an arranger and composer for Film an visual Media, am annoyed when an arranger(s) is/are not given credit--Hal Leonard should go out of their way to credit this person or persons.

The best Jazz Piano Solos series....thanks to the arranger Brent Edstrom.
Brent Edstrom's arrangements are a real joy to play. His output in this Jazz Piano Solos series is phenomenal, and yet his arrangements remain fresh, varied and exciting. One of my all-time favourite standards is "The Way You Look Tonight", and Brent's arrangement is easily the best I have played. The pieces are not overly difficult to learn if you are a late intermediate or better pianist (though somewhat difficult to sight-read with all the accidentals!), but they are soooo satisfying to play, and make you sound like a pro. I generally find sheet music to be somewhat lacking in content, probably because most of it is aimed at beginners. Brent's arrangements are certainly NOT for beginners, but they are definitely something to aspire to if you are a beginner. For better players, this Jazz Piano Solos series is, in my humble opinion, the best available. And excellent value to boot.Song List:Alfie (Theme from the Paramount Picture ALFIE)As Time Goes By (from CASABLANCA)Bésame Mucho (Kiss Me Much)Call Me Irresponsible (from the Paramount Picture PAPA'S DELICATE CONDITION)Come Rain Or Come Shine (from ST.
