Will this work for brick incense?

It might depend on the size of the brick. I first tried to burn the cone incense I bought on Amazon and they went out every time I closed the lid and then would not relight so they were wasted. I think it would be best to choose a burner that states it would work for the bricks if you've already purchased them.

It didn't happen to me, but it's not very well constructed. I can see how that might happen to someone.

Any cone should burn just fine. I didn't really care for this product, though. It's not well constructed. I threw mine away.

Does it get hot, can I hold it to walk around my house while charcoal is on?

It is made of wood, so no no it won't get hot IF you use the metal bowl to hold your incense. I threw mine out because the lid does not allow the smoke to escape and it is too heavy to use it with the lid open - the whole thing falls over. NOT a good design in my opinion.
