Sigma20mm F1.4 ART DG HSM Lens for Nikon

I've owned the Sigma 20mm F1.4 Art for just over a year now, and it's by far my favourite lens to shoot with. I primarily bought it for astrophotography, but have also found myself using it for architecture and landscape photography (see the attached photos). If you're a budding astrophotographer however, this lens is a must-have. I currently use it on my Canon 6D.Build quality:As expected for a lens of this price, the build quality is excellent. The materials feel premium and overall it is well-designed. It might be a bit heavy compared to similar lenses, but what you have to remember is that this lens is filled with quality glass. Sadly it's not weather sealed, which may put a few people off buying it, but this has never really bothered me as I never intended to use it in the rain. My only gripe is that the aspherical element can't be protected with a filter. However, the fixed lens hood does provide good protection from the odd knock or bash.Performance:Again, you get what you pay for. The performance of the Sigma 20mm F1.4 Art is superb. With a maximum aperture of F1.4 the lens really shines in low-light situations, especially if you're shooting astrophotography. Shooting at F1.4 also gives you some really nice bokeh too, especially when close to your subjects. Autofocus is fast and quiet, and the focus ring is also smooth and quiet. I've seen a few reviews regarding back and front focusing, or missing focus altogether, but in my experience I've never had this problem. Just remember that if you are shooting at F1.4 you are dealing with such a shallow depth of field that the slightest movement will shift the focus.Image quality:The image quality on the Sigma 20mm F1.4 Art lens is outstanding. Just like the other Art lenses, the images are sharp and crisp. I found that stopping down to F2.8 is the sweet spot for this lens. Shooting at the widest aperture also produces sharp images too, but pushing the lens to this limit does incur a tiny bit of softness. However, this is not really noticeable unless you really zoom into the image. Likewise, shooting at the smallest aperture does incur a bit of softness due to diffraction. Vignetting is also apparent at the widest apertures, but this is easily corrected in Adobe Lightroom. I've not really experienced much chromatic aberration with this lens, but it does happen once in a while depending on what I'm shooting. Again, easily corrected in Adobe Lightroom. There is also a tiny bit of lens distortion, but nothing too detrimental.Overall the Sigma 20mm F1.4 Art is an absolutely outstanding lens. As previously mentioned, it's currently my favourite lens to shoot with. I've never been too keen on ultra-wide lenses given the fisheye effect, so the 20mm focal length is ideal for me. Apart from a few minor gripes, the lens is near perfect, and is a must-have for astrophotography. I would highly recommend buying the accidental damage protection given the exposed aspherical element. Better to be safe than sorry! However, if you look after it well, you'll have no problems. After a year of use, there are no marks or scratches on the element or lens itself. The Sigma 20mm F1.4 Art lens will remain my favourite lens until I find something better, which might take a long time!Pros:- Excellent build quality- Superb performance- Outstanding image quality- Fixed lens hood for protection- A must-have for astrophotographyCons:- Heavy when compared to similar lenses- No weather sealing- No option to add a filter to protect the front element

Tolles Objektiv.Hat für mich eine neue Seite der Fotografie eröffnet (erste Festbrennweite).

"Warum tut man sich das an?" Diesen Satz hatte ich in meiner Kennenlern-Phase mit dem 20er oft im Kopf.Der AF ab Werk sitzt so überhaupt nicht da, wo er hingehört, muss also erstmal ordentlich justiert werden. Dann trifft es hin und wieder trotzdem nicht, was aber keine Schuld des Objektives ist, sondern der extremen Lichtstärke in Verbindung mit dem AF System einer DSLR geschuldet ist.Hat man sich dann aber an die Fokus Feinheiten gewöhnt und das Objektiv etwas kennengelernt, möchte man es garnicht mehr von der Kamera nehmen. Bei mir ist es zu 90% der Zeit an einer D750 und liefert ab ohne Ende.Die Ecken sind bei Offenblende natürlich nicht der Kracher, werden aber ab 2.8 akzeptabel und sind ab 4-5.6 top.Das stört aber nicht, da man die 1. 4 ohnehin meist zum Freistellen nutzt oder bei wenig Licht und selbst da fällt es nur ins Gewicht, wenn man wie ich gern Bilder in der 100% Ansicht betrachtet. Vielleicht bin ich diesbezüglich einfach zu pingelig.Aber Landschaften mit F8-F11 aufgenommen bestechen mit einer Detailschärfe, die ihresgleichen sucht. Ich habe es gegen das nikon 18-35 und das 16-35 4VR getestet und beide gehen absolut unter gegen das Sigma. Die Offenblende von 1.4 können beide ohnehin nicht bieten und ab Blende 4, was bei den beiden anderen Objektiven der Offenblende entspricht, überholt das Sigma beide dann locker.Zudem die Farbtreue, unglaublich. Schon fast zu präzise, weshalb das Objektiv nichts für Vintage-fetischisten ist. Denn es bildet knackscharf und brutal ehrlich ab.Auch Portraits sind trotz 20mm Brennweite sehr gut machbar, da das Objektiv so gut wie keine Verzeichnung aufweist. Ich fotografiere seit 14 Tagen mit dem sigma eines Freundes und habe mir nun mein eigenes bestellt. Kann es kaum erwarten, bis es ankommt.Egal ob meine Kids im Innenraum (bei iso 100-400 sind da locker zweiten um 1/200 drin!), für Landschaften(ab blende 8 blüht es richtig auf!) oder bei schlechtem Licht. Das sigma ist der perfekte Allrounder!Teuer, schwer, zickig, aber künstlerisch nicht zu toppen. Das Objektiv weckt regelrecht Kreativität, welche man in sich selbst vorher nicht vermutet hätte.

Das Objektiv ist scharf, schnell, macht Spaß und ist zum Filmen ein Traum. Leider ist es ziemlich schwer und groß. Für Fotografen auch gut geeignet, die eine andere Perspektive haben wollen.
