The 1-2-3 step pruning with more detail. 1. Open the Ratchet Pruning Shear as the widest range; 2. Cut the branches and stop to cut when the Ratchet Pruning Shear stops; this time it will cut 1/3 thickness; And loosen the handle when you hear some sound of the shear. 4. Cut the branches and stop to cut when the Ratchet Pruning Shear stops; this time it will cut 2/3 thickness; And loosen the handle when you hear some sound of the shear. 4. Cut the branches and stop to cut when the Ratchet Pruning Shear stops; this time it will cut down the branches. With the method above, it works flawlessly.

Not easy to hold
Hard to hold, don't open up very wide to get at what you want to cut, I dropped as much as I held due to how hard it was to reopen them after making a cut. Sometimes locked back up after making a cut then had to re unlock. Not a great pair to me.

Inexpensive but still not worth it.
These pruners lasted all of 5 minutes before breaking. I knew they were inexpensive but I expected more than 5 minutes of use. The pin, which the ratchet mechanism hinges on, fell out making them completely inoperable.

Perfect for light to medium duty pruning
These Pruning Shears arrived very quickly, and were packaged well. I guess I should have paid more attention to the word "Ratchet" in the product description because I was not expecting it to take 3 or more "clicks" to snip off some branches. That said, once I understood how they work, I realized these were for the tougher branches as opposed to the majority of my plants. Having injured both of my wrists at one time, I found these Pruning Shears beneficial for those tougher cuts. They do not require as much hand strength as other Shears and don't take up as much space as the larger branch cutters we have in the garage. I would recommend the Ratchet Pruning Shears for your medium duty gardening pruning. They're too much for the average plant, and not quite enough for the larger branches on most bushes. They are, however "just right" for the smaller and medium branches on those bushes. I have a number of unwanted bushes trying to grow along the edges of my deck, and these are perfect for me to keep those at bay. Overall, I like them and would recommend them for the purposes mentioned above.Note: I received this product for free or at a discount in exchange for my honest review. This in no way influenced my opinions or review.
