Not loud at all
Nice little radio if you're alone but it's not loud enough if you have someone doing something around you. Strong at picking up fm stations .

A little complicated to use, but good auto-tuning and memory
I am a complete amateur, but wanted a small portable shortwave radio for power cuts and emergencies. From reviews, there’s really nothing that stands out, so I ended up buying a Teksun R-9012 and Retekess V111 to compare. The Teksun is very simple to set up - literally put the batteries in, turn it on and away you go. In the middle of the day I found a few stations on FM, MW and SW. All were slightly scratchy but clear enough to hear in an emergency. The radio also seems pretty simple with few functions to go wrong. The Retekess V111 by comparison, has to be turned on ‘twice’ and the controls are more fiddly to work out - one definitely needs the instruction booklet. However, it does have a clock and alarm function. Also the auto-tuning memory function on the Retekess worked well for shortwave and found me about 4-5 more stations than I had found ‘by hand’ on the Teksun. When I went back, they were there on the Teksun, but I had missed them while tuning by hand. Curiously, despite having a very slightly wider range in FM and MW, the Retekess seemed to find fewer stations there, but this is possibly because I didn’t find all the bands, as the functions were a bit confusing. The antenna on the Retekess V111 is about 6cm shorter than the Teksun, but it does come with headphones which is nice. It also has a little fold-out stand at the back. There are pros and cons to each, but I would probably go for the Teksun. Although the Retekess digital auto-tuning was better at finding stations than I was, the Teksun’s analogue simplicity is appealing and the back-lit digital display of the Retekess suggests the batteries would run down more quickly - as is confirmed in other reviews.

Has sleep timer, favorite button, and volume at lowest setting is very quiet
The great thing about this Retekess V111 radio is that it has sleep timer and when you set the volume to lowest setting 1, it's very very quiet. Retekess V115 radio I have is still too loud when at lowest setting 1. However the V115 has better quality speaker and sound. This V111 radio uses two AA batteries that I need to recharge every two days outside the radio in an Eveready charger. . I only use it at night at bed time. The V115 uses a better 1000mAh flat style battery that charges in the radio. Charging is easy on the V115, and also has sleep timer. The buttons on the V111 have smaller buttons compared to the V115. However I wanted a radio that can get very quiet and this can do that. I really like the Favorite button when jumps instantly to my fav FM station, even when listening to an Am station. It changes to FM and the station. First radio I ever had that has a fav button like this.

Retekess V111: A very good and highly portable shortwave receiver!
This is a nice little radio. I use it daily. It takes up very little space and can be moved around the house quite easily. The sound quality is quite good given the size of the speaker. Battery life seems good.I cannot review LW reception as this band is not used here in the U.S. Local MW reception is very good. DX MW is marginal and could probably be much better with a larger internal antenna or an AM loop. Local stations come in loud and clear. Local FM reception is very good and is in stereo when headphones are used. Some fairly distant stations come in surprisingly well on FM.SW is the main reason I purchased this radio. A fairly large segment of the shortwave spectrum is represented and basically includes all of the international broadcast bands. Performance is ok considering the size and cost. DSP ensures that there is no drift. When you reach a specific frequency, you are locked in. The reception on SW ok with an external antenna. There are only two shortcomings with this radio that I have identified. The long distance MW reception is not that great. A slightly larger internal antenna could make a large difference. I wish this radio had a numeric keypad to enable direct frequency entry. Both could happen if the radio's body was just a slight bit larger. These two items are minor in the grand scheme of things though. It IS a low cost receiver, and you do get a lot of value for money. The VITE VT-111 is an exceptional value at $18.99 US.Customer service from Alwaysonline was absolutely superb! Angela reached out to me two different times. The first time was to ensure that I received the radio ok. This was done via telephone. The second contact was to ask me if the radio was working well for me. This was done via email. This was awesome in my book! I hope that I can do business with these people in the future as they truly care about the customer's overall experience.UPDATE: I purchased a second one (this one being Retekess branded) because I watched some recent Youtube videos of newer V111's that seemed to perform really well. I must say that the new one is worth seeking out.MW performance is much improved. On this one, I can receive regional stations in the daytime and many distant ones after dark. There is much less internally generated noise now. SW is a lot better also. The display LED is now white. The older version had amber lighting which made it difficult to see in poor lighting. So, definitely get one of these if you are looking for an affordable pocket sized MW/FM/SW radio that does well on all bands. Some things to note: Using 1350 mAh Nimh rechargeable batteries, the runtime is about 20 hours. Also, an length of wire (about 15 to 20 feet) clipped to the aerial helps SW reception quite a bit.
