Paradise and Plenty: A Rothschild Family Garden

I cannot describe how wonderful, useful, and gorgeous this book is. Amazing photographs, some are designed as a fold-out multi-page spread. Comes with lots of great inspiring ideas/tips for gardeners, and gives a fascinating and unique insight into the Rothschild family and its history. Also has a silk bookmark ribbon which is a nice touch. If you are not a gardener I recommend getting this book anyway just for the sake of admiring the beauty, if you are a gardener... well... this is something you absolutely must get.

Although 'Paradise and Plenty' is about the gardens (particularly the kitchen gardens) of a major country house, hence dealing with a subject rather distant from the direct experience of most 'normal' garden enthusiasts, it's actually a surprisingly practical, down-to-earth book. The book is beautifully presented, with delightful photos, but it's much more than just a gorgeous picture book. Mary Keen writes clearly, with insight and considerable charm about the behind-the-scenes work that goes on at Eythrope, revealing as she does so some thoroughly accessible, helpful tips for anyone interested in growing fruit and veg - even those of us who don't have a huge professional staff or massive acreage! A lot of garden books just to the same thing over again, with varying degrees of success. 'Paradise and Plenty' is something different, and for me, at least, it really works.

Inspiring and informative

Beautiful book. We had a particular interest living in close proximity to the garden.

I love this book, it's one of the best gardening books I've bought. Not only does it describe how they maintain the garden, the routines they go through but they list all the seeds, etc. they plant.
