In the Sun

With this, her third album, I expected a more focused offering of tracks but instead, I found a mish-mosh of tunes, many of which seem ill suited to her voice. Monheit wears many of the selections like a pair of oversized cover-alls, sounding like she is struggling to find a good fit within.There is no question that she is lovely to look at and has a voice to match, but I have to question some of the choices made on this album. To begin with, what is with the jacket? Is this a jazz album or some new age easy listening? I went looking for a bottle of wine to accompany the cheesy jacket design and silly beachfront photographs. I accept Jane as a serious musician, are the label exec?s trying to push a modeling career. The tracks themselves are ill arranged with a disparate sound that lacks continuity. Comecar De Novo? Why do we need to hear her singing in a different language? Is she Enya now? Stick to performing the standards and mix it up a bit with one or two tracks per album where she ?experiments? and we will all be happy.I pre-ordered this baby unheard because I thought things could only get better from the second album. Come Dream With Me was such a great album of music I am disappointed that I didn?t wait as I usually do. One last piece of advice- fire Joel Dorn and get a producer that knows his artist!

This album replicates a lot of material on the "Live at the Rainbow Room" album but is, in my mind, so much better. These are not live but studio recordings and they are first rate.These selections are mostly in the torch song tradition. There are a few happier selections to round out the collection. All are well done in terms of singing, arrangement, mix and accompaniment.I'm waiting for the next release.

I got this CD (In the Sun) along with "The Very Best of Jane Monheit". It is a very nice CD, good for long drives in the car.She has a nice mellow delivery that is very easy to listen to.

Had the chance to see Jane perform live last year in April and also in December... she is very personable and is amazing to see live.. very interactive with her audience.. even got an autographed poster ...

A real talent and I will enjoy this many times--top notch musicians -- I also have the DVD "Live at the Rainbow Room" which hasthese songs plus a few others, again excellent.

What a voice!

Having read the other reviews of this CD I can't believe that I'm the only listener who thinks that the final song "Since You've Asked" is totally superb. The orchestration, far from being like Mantovani, as some poor reviewer suggested, is sensitive and sympathetic to the vocals. How brave of JM to tackle this song - more like it please - we really don't need any more MOR versions of standards. Great album, however the jazz-heads moan about it!!

Not quite as other of her cds but worth buying at the right price

What a great voice and music to relax to. I have been playing this regularly since buying it. You won't be disappointed!

"In the sun" est pour le moment mon disque préféré de Jane Monheit;Très équilibré ,tant au niveau du choix des compositions que du son,on peut sans probleme l'écouter en boucle sans se lasser!Un album où l'on sent que l'artiste se donne sans concession , avec une très belle sincérité. On sent que ce répertoire de jazz vocal mettant l'accent sur de très belles mélodies, est le térrain de prédilection de Jane Monheit. Jane se fait donc plaisir et cela est communicatif. On est très loin d'un jazz vocal commercial calibré, et cela fait longtemps que l'on a pas rencontré une chanteuse de Jazz avec une voix tout à la fois claire ,limpide, et capable d'autant de musicalité dans le timbre .. Ainsi,plus qu'un simple talent ,on découvre une artiste, avec un vrai don vocal, qui fait ce qui lui plait en dépit des modes:un jazz vocal mélodieux,tendre, aux envolées douces et "lyriques"et qui n'est pas sans nous rappeler quelques voix de légendes... Ainsi donc, on est très loin de la chanteuse de jazz "fonctionnelle" qui fait un peu son boulot .. car une telle passion anime chaque titre,c'est très flagrant ! ..En quelques mots, Ce disque est ,vous l'aurez compris, un petit bijoux d'intélligence et d'émotion,....Surtout, si vous aimez ce qui est beau,ne le laissez pas passer !!!

What a great selection on this wonderful CD and shows a superb range of music.Her voice adapts to them all.

Come già scritto belle canzoni e ottimo disco: è un DUAL DISC: da un lato normale cd dall'altra DVD_AUDIO (AUDIO, NON video, non è la stessa cosa). Il bello è proprio questo; il lato dvd-A contiene le stesse canzoni in formato HD multicanale. Sublime
