Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt) has a gift - she can communicate with earthbound spirits or ghosts who cling to the living because they have unfinished business in our world preventing them from "crossing over" or going into the light. Inspired in part by the work of famed medium James Van Praagh and of Mary Ann Winkowski, a real-life communicator with earth bound spirits, GHOST WHISPERER explores the spiritual side of life and death. Melinda navigates between the dead and the living with her sometimes chilling, sometimes heart-rending and sometimes amusing actions as an intermediary between the ghosts and those they haunt. Although she is very good at being an intermediary she never publicizes this gift instead is known around town as a newlywed and the owner of the successful antiques store, Same As it Never Was. Firefighter Jim Clancy (David Conrad), Melinda's husband, knows that being an intermediary between the living and dead can take an emotional toll on his wife and worries that he might not be able to protect her as well as he would like. Melinda has also recently revealed her gift to new friend and employee, Delia Banks (Camryn Manheim), a single mom of teenager Ned Banks (Christoph Sanders). Melinda fears what the consequences might be of drawing Delia into this unconventional world, as Delia, unlike her son Ned, is a bit skeptical of Melinda's gift - although she loves Melinda unconditionally as a friend. Melinda has also shared her secret with Eli James (Jamie Kennedy), a psychology professor at Rockland University, who is a unique individual - he has the gift of hearing ghosts, but not seeing them. For her part, Melinda accepts her unique abilities as a blessing and sometime curse, but always helps her clients, alive or dead, find emotional closure. Currently in its fourth season, Ghost Whisperer plunges into new territory by literally rocking the foundations of the series with a new mythology - Love Transcends Death.

The Whispers End
After the amazing Jim/Sam storyline of the previous season this one moves forward five years and now Jim/Sam and Melinda have a child in the form of Aiden. He, too, is a sensitive and assists Melinda in her work with crossing spirits over into the light. Jim has become a doctor in the local hospital, Eli is still on campus, Delia has her real estate firm and Ned is studying the occult and other ghost related phenomena. As in all the previous seasons there are spirits for Melinda to bring peace to and cross over once they understand the full truth behind their lives and deaths. As the season progresses there is also the underlying plot of the "Shinies" and "Shadows" whom Aiden can see, but not Melinda. As the season draws to a close there is a real threat to Melinda and Aiden but to see the resolution you will have to buy the season yourselves. As always the beautiful Jennifer Love Hewitt is beguiling and heart warming, and her ability to hold the whole show together, for me, was still so evident. She has such belief in the whole programme and her love for the show and the characters is very strong. Jim is such a support and a great dad to boot. The only way in which I felt Melinda was let down was by the constant comments by Delia to "let this one go" but even then Delia could not help but step up to the plate when Melinda most needed her even if it put her own life at risk (again, watch the season to see what I mean). The support from Ned and Eli was great as, despite her Penthius usage, Melinda still needed outside help.It was so nice that the cast and crew got to celebrate reaching episode 100 but then such a shame that the whole show came to an end barely 7 episodes later. Five years (or possibly more) have been taken up with this phenomenal show and I, for one, will miss it now it has finished. (Maybe time to watch the whole series from the top!)I find Jennifer Love Hewitt very sexy and attractive, I cannot deny this, but to share a lunch date with her and just talk about the show and life in general would be an awesome experience and one to treasure for all my life. A dream, maybe, but then as this show instructs those who want to understand, dreams, visions and such like are as much part of life as anything else. Thank you JLH and all the cast and crew, the journey was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The end.
Ghost whisperer has been one of the most beautiful shows of the decade and ending the series when it still had so much life in it was a very big mistake on CBS's part. The series still maintained a large audience number week in, week out so the decision to axe the series is confusing on my part. The final series of ghost whisperer is set 5 years after season 4. Melinda and Jim/Sam now have a child of there own and Jim/Sam (that can get confusing to those who haven't seen series 4) has his old job back as a medical officer.Series 5 is a fantastic end to the series, although if the writers/producers would have known this would be the final series, I'm sure they'd have put a lot more into it, which would have been even more amazing.Ghost whisperer, is about love, hope and hauntings. Exactly what it says on the tin, well... cover actually. Each episode is tendered with such precision, hoping to make you feel what the characters on screen feel.Buy it.The final season, of what was the most beautiful show on Television.

last season
After seeing the first 4 seasons and loving them all, well of course I couldn't miss this 5th and final season! To be honest, I'd have been just as sadisfied ending it at the 4th (which by the way, I totally adored!!) This 5th season was a bit of a let down. I didn't like that 5 year-jump-ahead (it was too much of a rush forward). Of course this was to be able to tell the story with a little boy rather than a little baby, but I only liked the episodes because I'd gown fond of the charactors, as for the story-line, well, it was let's say ok...alot of things are left unexplained, probably to leave a bit of mystery, but when you're ending a show then I want that mystery solved!!! If you're a real fan then you'll want this final season, if you're not then let it end at season 4!

I want more
I had never seen the final season and could not wait. It was okay, but thought that the ending was just a little too pat and rushed. It would have been nice to find out that the trapped souls underneath had been guided into the light and that Romano and his cackling sidekick got their ghostly backside kicked. There is no further mention of Gabriel, Melinda's half brother either. Where did he crawl off too ?So, while the ending was okay it still left room for improvement, a pity that a last series was not commissioned, or at the very least a one off special to resolve the outstanding issues that had been highlighted in the series. On the whole it left more questions than answers, but I am addicted, regardless.

Okay, I Need To Address The Packaging
Unlike previous seasons, this season do not come with a slip case with three slim cases housing the discs. Instead it comes in a standard DVD case with all six discs in it. There's no episode descriptions, no additional booklet with details of each episode.I actually brought the region one version while waiting for this to come out. While it is still worth it to get it for the subtitles not included in the region one version, the packaging is a big let down. I know manufacturers no longer put in the effort they used to when it comes to designing the packaging for TV series but they could have printed the episode descriptions behind the main insert like they did for the region one's version.I know most people do not care about the packaging but to those who do care, you have been warned.
