Would a size 5 fit a kid ?

I wear size 7. It measures 9 1/2" measuring on the bottom of the sole to the very longest part of the shoe. My foot measures about 9". My granddaughter wears size 9 shoes and size 9 sandals...so these are pretty true to what shoes you normally buy. Best take the person to a shoe store, try on a size 5 and see if they work. I don't have anything smaller than 7 to measure for you.

are they tan or brown?

It depends on what size you order. This style was always brown but the last 4-5 years PALI made them a lighter caramel color. They are now making them a darker brown again so we still have some lighter ones in stock but most are brown.

Do they squeak when walking?

Yes. But only at first. After a few days they get broken in and quit squeaking. I've also had new ones that didn't squeak.
