Can detect damaged cable or the ports of the devices.You do need to get a small HDMI cable to pair with this, since you will always need one for this tester (should be included). Since it always has to be between the sourse and the output (make sure its a known good cable that you pair with this tester).LEDs are very bright and noticeable.There is no designated in or out, any direction works.

I bought this first in 2017 then 2nd one later in 2023, being in HDMI ASIC field for 18 years, this is the cheapest tool can be used for very simple go or no go test, no a fancy one but good enough as a pocket tool to have.

this is a very good product at a great price. With it I have found several bad HDMI cables and also a bad receiver. Another thing I have found is that the inputs on my TV work sometimes and sometime do not. It shows the having encryption on HDMI is crazy it causes most HDMI problems and is not necessary. It is only to prevent copying and I don't know any way to copy from a receiver or a TV. But this product works to save you many hours if you have a failure someware.
