Great product!
I bought the Opteka 420-800 mm lens, which I love, & I added on this 2x converter because it's so affordable, I figured why not extend my lens to 1600? I honestly doubt I'll need it very often, 800 mm is more than enough zoom for most of my photography situations, but it's still nice to have the option should it be needed. All in all I'm very impressed with the quality of the Opteka lens & 2x converter.

Shot the moon on 5-5-2015
I Bought the Opteka High Definition 2X telephoto converter lens after I was given the Opteka 500-1300mm lens and a T-connector. The 500 to 1300 mm manual lens takes some getting used to but takes a pretty good photo when mounted on my T3i Rebel. adding the doubler makes a big difference though.I shoot a lot of wildlife photography so this lens is perfect for me I do wish it came in an automatic model as well. I have learned two important things while testing this lens.First; Even on a good stable tripod with out using an automatic lens This lens will not get a good clean clear photo of the moon. I've shoot 500 photo's of the moon to night and I would love to see an Opteka sales rep put his rep on the line and use my camera and my lens to get a good clean clear shot of the moon using my lens. The photo attached is the best I could get on a clear night.Second if your shooting at night disable your flash if its built in. or if your camera has sport mode switch that on with this lens. Would I recommend this lens to someone else yes it's always fun to learn new thing about a len. I've used the 500- 1300mm lens and it takes some great shots durning the day or night. it's an investment money in the bank.

Big hit to sharpness
I bought this to try it out with a Rokinon 800MM mirror lens.I found that the 2X tele converter reduced the sharpness by more than 2X. In other words, I was better off just cropping in post. The only way I can see this being useful is if you have an optical viewfinder and you can't see well enough to manually focus without it.

Use with a mirror lens
Works well with mirror lens. Only problem I have had is with the threads. They didn't extend to end causing the mirror lens to rotate. Meaning I needed 2 hands to focus. Was time consuming to get it off the lens. I did not send back, as I was running out of time for the eclipse. I found a washer that would work or I should say made to work. Have a second one with no problems.

Center of image very low contrast
The media could not be loaded. It works, but contrast in the center of the image is very low. Not sure if it's normal or if I have a defective one. Nevertheless the price is right, and it's a nice addition to my camera bag. I don't see doing any "art" with this, but when you need to get the shot, it's good to have. This was edited in Adobe Premiere and the contrast was boosted to 200%, that made the center of the image better but crushed the blacks around the frame.

Ok for the price
I loved this converter, it doubled the zoom power of my lenses. I've used recently when we had the supermoon in la, and its amazing. Now i only need to buy myself a camera pod, because the lense and this converter somewhat weight too much for my unsteady hand.

You get what you pay for.
Eh. I first purchased the Opteka ultra tele-photo zoom lens and a 2x converter piece had come with it. It had some weird circular ghosting on it. So then I decided to skip going to the manufacturer and just purchase a new one, separately. A bit better, less ghosting, but the image is not as sharp as I expected it to be, even when using a still tripod and a shutter remote. Can't get a crisp image with this to save my life, so I actually just ditched it. Maybe it's the quality of the glass. Guess you get what you pay for?
