Do you have to drill or cut anything?

no cutting or drilling necessary. my dad installed mine in about 45 min. if you hav a 4-door i do think you have cut a small place in the padding above the door in order to place the screws. love mine, do not regret at all buying this product.

Can you leave open at highway speeds?

Will this fit a JL 2018 unlimited?

No it will not, the part number for the Sunrider for Hardtop for the JL is 52452-35.

1st time jeep owner. So please dont judge but Can you use just this with hardtop off or is it all or nothing?

Yes you can use it without the hardtop, just make sure to remove the rear attach brackets in section 5 (page 8) of the instructions. Those small brackets are there just to snug the Sunrider to the hardtop for a water tight seal. Otherwise, the Sunrider is firmly held in place by the attachments at the b-pillar roll bar (the one your sound bar is attached to) and at the windshield by the header latches that clamp down on the footman loops just above/in front of the sun visors. I run the Sunrider like this Spring, Summer, and Fall. I can even flip it open just like when the hard top is attached. When you go to put the hard top back on just make sure to re-install the rear attach brackets for a water tight seal. The above was all obvious to me when I first installed the Sunrider. The attachment points that hold it to the Jeep have nothing to do with the hard top, once again the rear attach brackets are just there to push the Sunrider down on the hardtop to squeeze the seals and keep water out.
