Boring and Slow -- Skips the "Will They/Won't They" for Tedious Birdwatching Descriptions
I frankly don't understand all the five star reviews. I've read most of Hill's works, and she's a first-rate author...sometimes. Basically there is a range of quality to her books from outstanding, to average but enjoyable, to a downright slog. "The Stars at Night" is not one of her better books. And no, my dislike isn't because it's one of her straightforward romances versus one of her romance/cop stories. "At Seventeen" and "Behind the Pine Curtain" are also fantastic Hill stories which are pure romances. I dislike this book specifically because it's unbelievably boring and Hill makes the cardinal writing error of repeatedly telling instead of showing.Basically, Hill wrote two characters who have no conflict with each other and thus zero drama or tension. There is in theory, and the two characters spend an enormous amount of time telling each other how they're not right for each other--yet not giving any reasons at all except "you're not my type." But it's glaringly obvious from the very beginning that the main characters are perfectly compatible. And the characters basically know it too soon after meeting.Romances are only fun when there is some internal conflict that creates palpable tension. "The Stars at Night" not only skips those moments, it instead fills the space with endless descriptions of birdwatching and astronomy.Would not recommend this book, but if you're new to Hill--go read "Hunter's Way" and you'll see why she's developed a fanbase.

The beauty of nature is awe inspiring!
GERRI HILL has done it again! I loved the storyline and couldn't help but fall in love with Kyler and Lexie. They were so believeable as were the supporting characters introduced throughout the story. GERRI'S descriptions of the park, birds and wildlife pull you right in! Thanks so much, GERRI, for a truly heartwarming read. Highly recommend!

Loved every page!
Opposites do attract and the proof is in the pages. Kyler loves her Park Ranger job in the middle of nowhere Texas. Lexie loves her job of social mixing in bustling Austin. When Lexie loses everything in the city, she needs a new life. I really liked both women but especially Kyler. She was all that Lexie didn't want! Fate can play funny tricks. Their relationship takes place over just a few weeks but the pacing was still very good. Wonderful characterization. There was nothing not to love in this book---including a very nice trip to the Davis Mountains. Such a good book and it was like a mini-vacation away from the woes of the world with just words alone. Many, many thanks to the author for sharing her words. I highly recommend this one.

People can and do change, thank goodness!
I'm a Gerri Hill fan from way back. Have a shelf filled with her books. Her latest, THE STARS AT NIGHT, is pure Gerri Hill romance. It's atmospheric (this one is set in a remote state park), and it's driven by psychological changes in the main characters. Its flow is leisurely even though the storyline encompasses a short time. The author shows that people can grow and change and work out their issues, as do Lexie and Kyler in this romance. I loved the scenic background of winter in a mountainous region of Texas, away from the hustle and bustle of the cities, and the way this background impacted the characters and their interactions with each other. It's a sweet, satisfying love story!

Heartwarming Romance!
They say when one door closes another opens and sometimes what we need is the opposite of what we think we want. If you've never had something you can't miss it. When love finds its way into your heart the air smells sweeter; the stars shine brighter and life is good. Often times, love sneaks up on two people and neither recognizes it--until it's gone. So, does absence really make the heart grow fonder?Gerri Hill writes amazing stories, no matter the genre. This book is about romance and self discovery. Feel the tug and pull of your heartstrings, as these lovable characters live out their lives, between the covers of The Stars at Night!

Stars at Night
This is a beautiful story and once again Gerri does not disappoint. I have read every book she has written and one thing is always consistent. She knows how to write a great book! I enjoyed the mountain setting along with the stars and birds. Lexie and Kyler's love story mixed with family and friends is perfect to read during this holiday season.

Perfect for a winter’s evening
A gentle romance that questions what makes our lives truly meaningful – 5 StarsWhen Lexie Walton loses her job, she agrees to a trial period managing her parent’s lodge in the Davis Mountains State Park. Anticipating that she will loathe the remote location, Lexie is certain she’ll be eager to return to city-life within days, but then she meets Kyler and life in the fast-lane gradually begins to lose its lustre...Whilst Kyler teaches Lexie the joys of taking life at a slower pace, being with Lexie encourages Kyler to recognise what’s missing in her own life too. An idyllic love story, set in an idyllic location, but both women are initially reluctant to put a name to their feelings. Towards the end of the book, the roles become almost reversed, and it’s Lexie’s decision to return to the city that brings about the final change.‘The Stars at Night’ is a gentle romance that takes its time to unfold. It’s always clear where the story is going, but this is dreamy novel and is rightly delivered at a languorous pace. With stunning descriptions of fauna, sunsets, and moonrises, the natural environment is always a feature, and there are parallels with Buddhist philosophy and mindfulness teachings among these pages too.Overall: The ideal companion to curling-up in front of the fire with a mug of hot chocolate; ‘The Stars at Night’ is made for a winter’s evening of ‘me time’.

Shipping fail?
Just arrived in the mail the box it came in was in perfect condition... the book however came creased in the centre. Right through the pages. Pretty dissatisfied about that.
