Fun Read with a Moral, for Middle School and Higher Readers
I really liked this translation of a familiar story. There are some hilarious moments (mine is not the only family that occasionally has disruptions at the dinner table), and a moral that doesn't get shoved down your throat like so many old tales try to do. It is a modern translation of Middle English, so it uses big words in places - this isn't a read for someone with elementary level skills, but a middle schooler or high schooler can figure it out.Roll with the language, accept that it's different from texting, and pay attention to what's actually happening. I dare you not to laugh out loud in many places as Sir Gawain tries to keep a promise made hastily but with the best intentions, and kinda gets pwned by his host, who isn't quite who he seems, and turns out to be.... Well, you'll see if you dare to decode this short book. More fun than anyone would expect from a required textbook.

FAR better than the free translations available
This translation of a classic tale is done in a lovely fashion with special attention to the poetry's meter and vocabulary. Archaic words are defined seamlessly to the right of the line, and are not too dense for non English-scholars.The notes at the beginning of the text are golden for those interested in the "music" of the words. There's a bit about scansion that is very illuminating. I have not yet read the critical essays, but there are several to aid in your deep-reading of the text.Context helps a lot since this tale is SO old.I had previously read a prose translation. There are free ones available because they are out of copyright. It was suitable for getting across the plot, but it was not as lovely to read as the version featured here.

Used (Boring Story)
This book did come used with notes handwritten in. The notes could bother others but they really helped me understand what was going on in the story. I did not care for the story (it was very hard to stay interested in) but I’m giving 5 stars for the book itself.

A Classic Work Impeccably Translated
This poem is a masterpiece of literature, and this particular translation is the best that I've ever encountered. Additionally, the critical essays in the back of the book are truly enlightening. Anyone that appreciates remarkable literature (with excellent comedy) should purchase this book.

Great Book, better critiques!
This is a great book that has a good and interesting story line. The translation follows the original medieval poem very well. The critiques are really great and really helped me to understand the book from new perspectives.

Nice!
This one was also just as the description read. It doesn't looked used at all actually and the spine is perfect for a hard back. I like it! I would recommend this.
