Crazy From The Heat

I've been reading rock biographies which tend to be somewhat depressing, but David Lee Roth's autobiography is different than most. Usually there is a somewhat dry quality to a rock biography, however, Roth's book had a fluid quality. Although he discussed his parents and his childhood, he tends to flit from subject to subject, making his book more like a conversation than a conventional timeline. David Lee Roth isn't shy about voicing his opinions. I was intrigued by what it was like to travel on a tour bus, something I hadn't read about before. He doesn't dwell on negativity or conflicts with his bandmates. It is obvious they didn't always get along, but there are no long passages trashing Eddie Van Halen or Alex, nor does he mention conflicts with Eddie's wife Valerie Bertinelli other than to say they didn't get along that well. His sense of humor is evident throughout the book. He also doesn't get into detail about his many affairs, however, he does state that he only loved three of his girlfriends, but he was gentleman enough to not name them. The book is worth reading if you are interested in insight into the mind of David Lee Roth.

The book was a quick read and highly enjoyable. It was good to see David Lee Roth given the chance to tell his perception of Van Halen.

Boek is interessant, Dave is een goede verteller, sommige stukken vond ik wat langdradig maar overall een aanrader. De kwaliteit van het boek laat alleen te wensen over. Wat ik echt jammer vond is dat de foto's erg onduidelijk waren door de slechte print, is zeker voor verbetering vatbaar

Die Autobiografie ist absolut fesselnd und crazy! DLR ist ein irre guter Schriftsteller! Ich hab’s auf Englisch gelesen, daher waren alle Wortspielereien etc. originaler Wortlaut! So viele neue Aspekte seiner Kariere und Persönlichkeit entdeckt! Sooooo viele Dinge an die er sich erinnern kann, im Detail! Unfassbar!!! Er schont sich selbst nicht und bleibt dabei so gut wie immer ‚höflich und fair‘ anderen gegenüber! Bin absolut begeistert! CRAZY! Ich hätte supergern eine Autobiografie von ihm, von der Zeit danach bis heute! Für dieses gilt: kaufen und eintauchen in seine Welt!!! Viel Vergnügen!
