Q: How are these in comparison to the cretacolor water soluble oil pastel aquastics?

Cretacolor's AquaStics are an artist's-quality, watersoluble oil pastel, with superior pigment load and colors that are rated for lightfastness. The Crayola Portfolio are smooth and lay down easily, by they are not rated for permanence and would not be considered suitable for artwork you intend to sell. The Crayola also do not wet out as easily, and the color intensity is very perceptibly weaker. Cretacolor do come at a higher price, but the advantage is in the intense colors, more varied color range, and the lightfastness information.

Each pastel measures 3¼" long × ½" diameter

Q: Does the 24 set have different colors than the set of 12?

The 24 set has more colors. It includes all the colors that are in the 12 color set and more. These are actually great and at a great price. If you are new to oil pastels, I think you'll enjoy them. If you already have the 12 color set, you will get more of the same colors in the 24 but they are the ones that will be used up the fastest. Go for the 24. You'll be glad you did.

Q: Are Prismacolor pencils good quality & water based?

What is pictured here are oil pastels, not colored pencils. Prismacolor colored pencils are top quality, but are not water based. Some of the best watercolor pencils are Staedtler Karat Aquarelle.
