Basil for the adventurous tongue
You've had basil before, as it's a pretty basic spice in anyone's kitchen. Maybe you've tried more exotic basils like Thai basil, or maybe even Lemon basil... but this basil is different. It's the holy grail of basil in my humble opinion! Commonly called Purple Basil in the west, this basil has a distinct scent of fruit, with berry like undertones, making for an interesting flavor that just works so well somehow. It's mild, and slightly sweet with a bit of peppery afterbite, which pairs perfectly with both white and red meats. I find myself reaching for it a lot and I'm glad that I bought such a large bag. The bag is resealable, so you can use it straight from the bag or put some in a container if you prefer. Another really good spice from Brundo, you can't go wrong with this brand!

Looks great, smells lovely
Quite a large size bag and as soon as you open it are met with a wonderful scent. Nothing like the regular basil that is common. Almost reminds me of chamomile scent, floral and sweet. I can’t wait to use this for my Ethiopian dishes & more.

Very authentic, very high quality
Perfection! No other herb substitute comes close. This made my homemade niter kibbeh and doro wat come out amazing. Very authentic, very high quality. If you're looking for the real deal to make your Ethiopian food as perfect as possible, this is it. Very pleased with my purchase.

Beautifully Aromatic
This Basil is Special. I ordered it for a birthday present for a Chef-friend interested in Ethiopian Cuisine. I ordered a second one for me! I have to say, the basil is much more aromatic that dried basil that I am accustomed to and added a significant and wonderful flavor to the first dish I cooked it in. I will be encouraging my friend to send a review, as soon as he tries his gift!

Unique and essential in Ethiopian cuisine
Excellent product--one that is essential (along with Ethiopian cardamom) in making several classic dishes, including doro wat. This variety of basil tastes almost nothing like the Italian or the anise-nuanced Thai varieties. Instead, it has a somewhat floral tea-like fragrance and flavor. The small company that produces it is worthy of support.
