A really nice instrument for the modest price. Calibration is not traceable to NIST or any other standard I am aware of. It works fine for candy making, baking, brewing, smoking, grilling, incubators, and refrigerant measurements. Which are the uses I need it for. If you are trying to prove net energy release from tabletop cold fusion, maybe get something calibrated to a recognized standard. Comes with four basic type "K" bare bead thermocouples. The supplied thermocouples have polymer insulation, so not great for much above 230 degrees F. for extended periods. The supplied thermocouples do work fine for refrigerant line measurements. I bought inexpensive bare bead thermocouples with ceramic insulation, that easily withstand my 550 degree bread oven. A probe with a pointed stainless steel tube is nice for grilling, and similar baking, brewing, type purposes where you insert it. One problem will miniature type K, thermocouple connectors (The little 2-pin yellow plugs) is they tend to get lose with use, especially if you accidentally force one into the receptacle backwards. Nice handy instrument, with a quality look and feel.

I have two sensors together. They sense different temps. Using a probe that is water proof the water freezes at 0°C fine. The same water boils at 92 on one probe and 98 on the other. Rolling boil shoild be 100° Mash temp for beer at 152 using a calibrated thermometer reads 152. This junk reads 150 and 146 on two probes litterallu tied together If I turn it off for a minute but keep probes in place at a stable temp when you turn it back on they read more than 30°C out then takes 15 minutes to get close but never gets to the actual temp. There seems to be no means to calibrate either

Not happy on this product, second time trying, new batteries but for some reason these numbers are right off T1 says 7.3°C but it’s in -10°C solution and I know it’s -10 from the PLC T4 is in a hotter solution my PLc says it’s 57.2°C not 43.7°C, Not happy please email me this is unacceptable!!

Wow! 860 degrees Fahrenheit while using the self-cleaning cycle of our Frigidaire Professional gas range. (Per an undocumented search on Google, the cleaning cycle should max out at 900 degrees. Note: to do this test, I used a separately purchased $10, K-type thermocouple with alligator clips .) I'm giving this 4 stars because the instructions lack sufficient details to be helpful, the readings take time to stabilize, and are somewhat inconsistent. But, for the price, and the results below, I am happy with my purchase. The 4 included thermocouples appear able to read a normal oven of say 350 degrees F, or go right into the freezer. They show that water boils at about 202 degrees F in Denver, but ice water is right around 32F. While the combination cannot compete with the likes of Fluke meters, for a quick check on our outdoor gas grill, or indoor oven, this appears to be respectable and useful. This addition to the digital thermometer permits clipping to the interior of the oven or gas grill and provides a higher maximum temperature exposure. The other standard leads confirmed that the adjacent cabinets remained safely cool if the doors were kept open. I have discovered that the reading appears to be influenced by several factors including: ambient temperature of the total cable, total time that the thermometer has been "on", and the effect of cycling the thermometer on and off.
