FULI 100% Cotton Zippered Futon Cover, Japanese Futon Mattress Cover, Shikibuton, Made in Japan (Twin XL, Gray)

As another reviewer has noted, it will shrink (correction: CAN shrink—see second paragraph). This will make a Twin XL (83” long) shikibuton a tight fit, lying not quite flat with a bug bump in the middle. English language support on the tags and literature is minimal, but I suspect that somewhere in the Hiragana text is a warning that the fabric is old-school cotton—NOT pre-shrunk—with apposite care guidelines, so those of us who aren’t Japanese-literate miss out on that critical information.Solution: Launder it so it won’t shrink, like your grandmother would have back in the day before pre-shrunk fabrics were commonplace—that is, do not use any heat. After mine shrunk, I ordered a second: Can confirm that if hand-washed (or machine-washed on a gentle/“delicates” cycle) with the coldest water possible, then either line dried or tumble dried with NO HEAT, it will NOT shrink.If there were adequate literature to prevent user-error for we Americans who are unaccustomed to traditional fabrics, this product would be worthy of 5 stars: It’s soft, smooth, comfortable, and easy to dry-maintain (use a vacuum and/or lint brush).Other than adding more complete care instructions/warnings, all I would change is that the zip closure should extend around at least one of the short sides—with the opening only on one long side, it can be a wrestling match getting a shikibuton into it without a second pair of hands to assist.

I purchased this for my son's birthday to cover the grass mat itself (we didn't get the cushion, as a true stoic needs no such luxury, obviously), and it worked brilliantly. I washed it before use (in cold water, recklessly dried on low despite directions not to dry), and it was a perfect fit! My son is 6' 3 and both the mat & cover were plenty long. I'm rather stunned it all worked out so well, frankly, as I've grown so accustomed to things going to crap in 2020 and following.

TL;DR: This cotton cover shrinks!!Bought this cover as it’s one of the very few options that fit the size of the twin XL shikibuton that I have. I even bought it from the same vendor that sells the futon mattress and tatami that I bought.I was very careful not to dry the mattress cover in a dryer and only line dried it. After 1 wash it shrank in length and now my futon mattress would not fit inside.Now I’m stuck with a cover I cannot use and it doesn’t fit anything else.I do NOT recommend this item.

Ordered the FUJI Twin futon (75"L x 39"W x 2.5"). Ordered the FUJI Twin XL cover (85"L x 41"W). As you can see the cover is 10" longer than the Futon.Washed the cover on high heat with laundry detergent and dried it on high heat with Bounce. Now at the top and the bottom there is about 1" overhang. The width did not shrink at all. No discoloration. The texture and feel is the same with the Bounce smell. Perfect! Now I can wash and dry it as I please; no need to hang dry.Wrinkled but, that was how it looked brand new. Should smooth out over time.Still a pain to put the cover on but...Hope this helps.

I love this futon cover except I wish it was a bit larger because it’s really tight. I have never put it in the dryer, I always line dry. Washed in cold.It’s a bit annoying to put on but other than that, no complaints.Thank you.
