This book basically reads as a list of training methodologies - such a disappointment.
I really enjoy the Bioneer Toutube channel, so I thought I would see what the host had to offer in this book. Not much it turns out.The first three hundred something pages is basically just a very shallow look at a very broad range of training methodologies peppered with the reminder that for the average guy it is best to train a bit of everything rather than working as a specialist. There is literally nothing here that you couldn't get from a small number of 10 minute videos from a fitness channel - like the Bioneer. That is not why you buy a book though. You read 300-400 pages because you want to go deeper. I was hoping this would be an in depth exploration of Adam's (the Bioneer) training philosophy as well as a lay out of an implementable methodology. The book leaves me wondering if he himself has any of those, and especially the latter.By the end the book does redeem itself slightly with some suggestions on how to implement training that is taking a bit from every other sport without being overly time or energy demaning, or without being too confusing. In my opinion this is the real worth of the book, and this section should have been expanded to 300+ pages. Instead it is mostly a book about basic facts of different sports and their athletes. Wikipedia does this better.

Inspirational Body and Brain Exercise Ideas
Anyone familiar with The Bioneer’s excellent YouTube channel will recognise much of what is contained in this book. Plenty of solid information on a broad range of exercises that can be used to inspire and develop your own personal fitness journey.I recently started lunging into the kitchen from my bedroom for coffee number one of the day and feel this attempt to wake myself up whilst strengthening knees and improving balance must have been inspired by some part of this book or perhaps an older video. If not outright stolen. Slow, gradual changes to my routines have definitely come from Adam’s work. For me though, the value of owning the book is mainly twofold:1. My own increased ability to find the information I want through flicking through a book rather than fast forwarding through a few online videos.2. The inclusion of 29 typographical errors in this first edition. The deliberate misspelling of real names, missing superscripts, flipped homophones and other sneakily included errors really adds to the book (and channel’s) partial focus on brain training. A nice added bonus brain building exercise!

A very interesting read
Adam Sinicki aka "The Bioneer" on Youtube, is a very interesting fitness/training person and this book builds upon that. "Functional Training and Beyond" challenges the boundaries in what one can regard as fitness literature, but in a good way, by pushing the readers perception of training and fitness. This is not a book in the dime a dozen category of "do this and get fit in thirty days" but a proper read to digest in small amounts, at least I needed to stop and think about what I just read quite frequently.Highly recommended.

Excellent refreshing approach to training
Author Adam Sinicki knows what he is talking about. He is also known as the Bioneer and has a website and youtube channel by the same name. I suggest you check those out, I'm sure that will convince you to buy this book. Excellent stuff!

A must read.
I been following Adam Sinicki YouTube for years now so I might be bias. This book is a must read for anyone interested on how training effects your body and mind(chemically). He does not push his ideals on you, but tries to explain his point of view from a scientific perspective. Its one of those books you will read multiple time and every time you do you will get a deeper understanding on what he is talking about.
