The Best Sanitized Water Delivery for small Birds
These are the very best water bottles for canaries, finches, budgies, and similar sized birds. The Lixit plastic bottle fits most cages and they are easy to install. The clear bottle makes it easy to see the level of the water. Each bottle comes with an attachment that fastens securely on the cage, and the back of the bottle fits in the small cutout space. I do not even need the attachment because the little plastic knob in the back of the bottle slides neatly between the 3/8” spaces in between the bars and rests on one of the crossbars. I have owned small birds for over 14 years and have never had one slip out. The bottles are sturdy, they last for years, unless dropped on a hard surface, and with plastic, there is a chance cracking. However, over the years, I have dropped several and they have remained intact. The bird receives water by pushing a little ball at the end of the spout; in addition, it is rare that any leaked, due to the special silicone seal to prevent any dripping. However, if there is a leaking problem it could be due to one of two issues. If cold water is leaking out through the spout, just allow the water in the bottle to adjust closer to room temperature and the leak will slow down and stop. The other second reason is probably a hairline crack in the plastic. If a bottle is no longer airtight the water will leak through the nozzle, it has nothing to do with the cap screwing on tightly. To figure out if this is the problem, cap the empty bottle tightly and place it in a tub of water. If there are air bubbles forming, than the plastic is cracked. In an emergency, find the crack and coat it heavily with either super-glue, or use a glue gun, then let it dry thoroughly for eight to ten hours. If the glue has sealed the crack, the bottle could last a couple of weeks, until you have purchased a replacement. Then I use the ‘fixed’ bottle as an emergency replacement in case another cracks so much that a temporary ‘glue-fix’ will not work at all.Water bottles are sanitary; open water dishes collect feathers, seed, pellets, treats, veggies, fruit, stray bugs, moths, poop, and anything floating in the air. Open water dishes are also an excellent breeding place for e-coli, just run your finger over the side and bottom of the water dish and I can almost guarantee that there is a coating of slippery slime, even when washed daily. The Lixit plastic bottles are sanitary; nothing can contaminate the clean water, along with many advantages.1) Fresh clean water is always available2) These bottles have a large opening that will fit a few ice cubes, therefore during those warm hot days, the water may be room temperature at the end of summer day, but it will not be hot, (unless the water bottle is in direct sun throughout the day).3) Easy to monitor how much water their daily intake is (unless they push the little ball at the end of the spout to take a shower, which is fun to watch, but happens only occasionally).4) The Lixit plastic bottles have a large spout opening; therefore, my birds are NOT struggling to receive their water.5) Cleaning is easy, a bottlebrush, or the dishwasher. If you find that cold water is leaking out through the spout, just allow the water in the bottle to adjust closer to room temperature and the leak will slow down and stop.Birds are intelligent, and they catch on very fast, just leave a water dish with the water bottle for a day, and after they ‘catch-on’, the bottle becomes their preference over a water dish.JUST ONE WORD OF CAUTION: the end of the spout needs a routine daily check, in case they decide to push a piece of seed, or pellet into the spout. Check in the mornings and evenings, poke a finger in under the spout and flick the little ball to make sure that the waterspout is functioning properly and not clogged.

Needed this for a while
Works great for us. Our little Quaker Parakeet thought his "Drinking Dish" was a undersized bathtub so he NEVER had fresh water. The Lixit Bird Bottle solved that. It leaked slightly in the beginning, so I placed a small dish under it, the ball seated within the first day.

Do NOT BUY this product!
I used these feeders for years. They were perfect, they way they fit on the cage and how they worked. That is PAST TENSE. They were perfect. Now they are horrible. The company must have been bought out, or maybe sold out. The manufacture quality is awful. The seam on either side of the bottle goes through the screw of the mouth. At the seams the threading does not exist, which means the threads in the cap have nothing to seal to, which means the bottle leaks and THERE IS NOTHING you can do about it. I saw the bad reviews, but I've owned so many I could not believe they were really that bad. I've had trouble with the better ones if they needed to be cleaned or I didn't screw the cap on straight. So I ordered two. For some reason, one of them works. The other is hopeless. My husband got me a cheap hamster water bottle that works fine. I am sorry I wasted our hard-earned money on what used to be a great product, but is now ruined.

Slight work around
I have been using Lixit water bottles for 12 years and love them. I have always purchased the 5 oz size and was excited to find this 10 oz bottle. However, I am unhappy to report that this bottle leaks. Thinking I was doing something wrong, I tried many things to get it to work and searched the Internet for suggestions. Eventually I used a metal wire strap to hang the bottle on my birds cage instead of the plastic mounting bracket and that did the trick. The bottle no longer leaks.

We never had a problem with leaking
Been using these for 20 years and we’re so sad they don’t make them anymore. They were so easy to slide on and off the cage. And now that I’ve broke my last one, my bird is super upset. He’s had one of these the whole 20 years of his life. These have a red ball at the end and he liked that a lot better than the metal ones. I’ve broke so many of these over the years from dropping them, nuking them in the dishwasher. But they never leaked. Not sure how I managed that with all the complaints, but we never bought one that didn’t work right. Please bring them back.

Problems with the seal
First of all, one of the 3 bottles I ordered was missing part of the mounting kit. Since I only needed one, I wouldn't bother to return it for that alone. Beyond that, though, the gasket on one of the caps is twisted, making this one impossible to seal correctly (i.e., without dripping). I had this kind of bottle before, and I know it takes a while to get the lids to seal properly, but this does seem to be taking a long time, with resulting floods in my birds' cages. I may end up returning all 3.

Works every time and no leaks!
I bought this one and a Lixit Chew Proof Glass Water Bottle, 6 Oz to test which would be better. This one is the clear winner. Screw the mount into place, fill bottle and insert. Been using mine for about 5 months now for my parakeets and haven't had any major problems. The only downside I've noticed is sometimes debris may find its way inside the bottle through backwash. No leaks especially or clogging and it's easy to clean and refill. My only regret is not buying a bigger one.

Resurrected Perky Pets bottles
Lixit was always the biggest name in water bottles, despite making the very worst small water bottles. You couldn't get the Lixit brand brushes into their too small spouts, and the narrow mouth of the bottle was also hard to clean. I always used the green Perky Pets brand bottles for my budgies and was so sad when I could no longer find them. Now here they are under Lixit's name. Sorry the little guy with the good product lost out to Lixit (minus one star), but glad I can get them again. NOTE: as with any water bottle, you must roll the ball with a finger to seat it. Then they SHOULD not leak. Update: but leak they do. I still had extra Perky Pets tops ( the bottom seams broke on those) and use them successfully with the Lixit bottoms ( the bottle portions ). Tired of playing games to keep the lixit spouts from leaking.

Parrotlet uses it
I got the black one, which I prefer, instead of blue. Needs to screw it on to the cage which makes it more securely in place. Good for small birds. My parrotlet learned quickly and uses it. At first, I have to use my finger to let the water drop so my parrotlet can see. I have this for months now and no leaks.

Great, I have bought other ones that go inside ...
Great, I have bought other ones that go inside the cage, but the birds land on the top and it lands on the floor, so the water spills over the floor, not a good idea.

Water Bottles!
Disappointing! The last 2 , still usable are fine. The 2 new, larger ones leak so badly. The bottom of the cage & surrounding floor were soaked. Back to the old ones!

Failed after very short time
Worked as advertised for a very short time (two weeks or so) then it started to drip continually. The tube and ball were thoroughly cleaned but it continued to drip emptying completely in 90 minutes. After another week of frustration it was relegated to the bin. My canary really seemed to prefer other drinkers and seemed to play with this rather than drinking from it. The screw on bayonet is awkward to move. If your inclined to rearrange your cage fittings with any regularity. I would have liked this to work but it wasn't reliable nor particularly well constructed.
