Bellissimo

Must read
This is one of my absolute favourites. Bought it to read for the fifth time. Deeply touching. The prose is poetic and beautifully written.

Beautifully told and exquisitely written
I was surprised to learn that this book was first published over 20 years ago - its story remains so relevant and poignant. Anna Michaels traces the life of Jakob Beer: From his meeting with Athos in a Polish forest at the age of 7 through to the memories and the people he leaves in the world after his death. Michaels writes her story in a series of moments - this allows her to immerse us in her beautiful and evocative writing then move us on without loads of 'linking prose'. (It's a clever approach when you consider she's harnessed her skill as a poet into this unusual novel structure.) This could have produced quite a disjointed read but it doesn't. The novel flows in and out of all of these delicious moments and is a wonderful way to experience Jakob's journey. It just goes to show that it's worth looking outside whatever's 'current' for a great read. Fugitive Pieces is beautifully told and exquisitely written.

A lire absolument !
