I think this jar is the ideal size to maintain an active starter. It fits in the fridge without taking up too much room, but is large enough. The set is nice, the spatula is the right size. The product comes with two cloth jar covers, which I don’t really use. If you leave your starter on the counter with a cloth cover for more than about a day, it can easily start to mold, so I prefer the regular lid. The band has days of the week and times, to indicate when the starter was fed. The box also included the temperature sticker, which is also useful. I highly recommend this product!

Update: the seller contacted me and apologized for the issue and sent me a new crock which does not appear to have the same lid issue. The starter I want to use it for actually doesn't call for using the bamboo lid (just the cloth "lids"), so I expect this will work just fine for what I want. Many thanks to the seller for their super quick response to resolving this issue.--------------------Even before washing the jar, I put the lid (it came with) on. Stunned to find I then couldn't get the lid off! While trying to get the lid off the glass broke ... thankfully no one got hurt. Unfortunately I took too long to try as it appears I can no longer return :-( Very sad.

I really like the size of the jar and love the cloth cover and scraper.The recipe is rather complicated for a beginner but the bread was good. I'd like a recipe that had fewer steps and didn't take as long to make.Also there was no real instruction on how to set or read the band and the thermometer has never changed so I assume it doesn't work. Or I just don't know how to read as no direction on that eitherBut to sum it up I love the jar and cloth.( I wish I knew how to keep inside clean while growing the starter though.In other words better instructions and a cookbook with tips would be nice.

It was exactly the size I wanted and it’s such good quality. I love everything it includes like the extra lid and cheesecloth covers, marker, labels and easy to follow instructions! I already had a sourdough started but the steps to start your own are very helpful. Love it and love seeing my starter grow!

This is my 2nd, it is a replacement. The first one had a chip in the bottom wall. It was within 30 days, returned and I received a replacement. This is the replacement and in the 2nd month, it also has a chip in the bottom wall. I hand wash and am very careful with the jar. But now no one to talk to, and these aren't cheaply priced to begin with. I am so disappointed in this jar. I loved the size, the shape, but not the chipping, and no one to talk to about it.Reply: Just heard from the company and they refunded the purchase. I really think they can fix the issue and this be a great product. I appreciate their willingness to make it right, so I'm upgrading my review.

I really like this jar and the spatula was a nice addition. The cloth covers are super difficult to get on though. It took two of us to slip it on the jar. Sadly the jar was too big to use in my Goldilocks warmer so it got switched over to a discard container that I keep in the fridge. The size is great because it is holding a lot of discard. I very much like the wooden lid that goes on it. I ended up using the cloth covers on my starter jar, they fit mason jars much better. They need to be a little bigger to work well on this jar. Maybe they stretch over time? The glass is a bit thin and doesn't feel as sturdy as pyrex, but it is a nice jar and I am glad I bought it.

This item was packaged very nicely. Although I was anticipating starting on my sourdough journey I had to wait several weeks create my very own starter dough. On the second day I fed the dough mixing it with the provided spatula. When I picked up the jar to move it to its resting place I realized the starter was leaking out of the bottom of the jar which had cracked or shattered! I would return it in exchange for a new one thinking mine was defective, but the dye said it was past the allotted return period. My advice, save your money and just use deli plastic containers for your starter. They won’t cost anything and they’re pretty sturdy.
