Flowers of Evil: A Selection (New Directions Paperbook, 71) (English and French Edition)

New Directions edition
I've been reading a lot of French Decadent novels, and they often reference Baudelaire as an inspiration for the movement. Since I'd only read a few poems by him, I went ahead and got Flowers of Evil (1857). Yowza! He's a powerful poet for sure and earns his reputation as an 'enfant terrible', but a little of him goes a long way.

O, where have you gone, Baudelaire?
Flowers of Evil is teeming with imagery that is, at times, lofty, and others, bitter. My favorite edition is the 1955 New Directions Paperbook edition. He was truly a poet who lived and thought rather than the masses who merely muse on living. Read his poetry and step lightly through the flowers.

The book came in dirty and bent!!! It looks like a used book
I just got this book from the mail and i was super excited to read it, but when i opened it, the book was bent and the cover is dirty for a "new book" I would have bought this at a local bookstore if i had known that the book would come in this condition. Not happy.
