Spice and Wolf, Vol. 17 - light novel (Spice and Wolf, 17) (Volume 17)

After the events of volume 16, we get one more-or-less novella length story to tie off the characters development. It's a bit bitter sweet as it's obvious the author is also closing out their story on a happy note. I'm rating this a 5 because of the feels, but have to admit that the overall story seems a bit forced, as if the ending was decided on and then the rest put in place without as much thought as most of the other series exhibits. This is most evident in that the main suspense of the story depends pretty much totally on Lawrence being denser than lead when it comes to the main plot point. Often in the series Lawrence has had to struggle with not fully understanding Holo, but he seems particularly oblivious in this story - despite a beautiful bit toward the middle where he shows he does have some insight based on her bathing habits. On that note, this is basically the only story where Lawrence and Holo share a small amount of physical intimacy even if it's quite tame.The remainder of the short stories offer basically some additional insight into Holo and Lawrence during their travels; although like the 3rd Side Colors book they suffer somewhat as some don't seem to actually match very well to the main timeline, although I'm probably over thinking that. However they are cute and bring something of a bit of additional closure to the series.

And with this, the long, long journey of the merchant and the wolf is finally over. It opens with a "where-are-they-now" segment, and I really liked the descriptions of Lawrence and Holo's new life. Then there are three SOL-ish short stories, but they fit because they focus on Lawrence and Holo's relationship, unlike several of the short stories in the Side Colors volumes. One thing I do have to dock points for, though, is the translation. This translator seemed to be really fond of subordinate clauses using "as." Oftentimes, sentences would be sandwiched between two "as" clauses (which doesn't really make sense if you think about it), and even when they weren't, sentences with single "as" clauses were ridiculously abundant. Like, at least one per page. It got distracting, breaking immersion. This needed a proofreader.Other than that, though, this is an extremely fitting end to the series. But wait, isn't there a sequel series about to start up? Yen Press, you know what you have to do, right?

It's sad to see the series end, but all good things must come to an end. This is like side colours where it's a collection of short stories.

It's been almost a year since I bought the first volume. It's a wonderful journey between Holo and Lawrence as well as me. The Vol. 18 just came out yesterday. It seems that the story has not ended yet.

Long time fan of the series, read all the previous books before. Not as enjoyable or engaging as some of the earlier books in the series, but still a pleasant read. And a more than delightful way to end a series spanning almost a decade.

This story was great and made me feel complete inside. I have never been so happy. a must read for every fan.

The perfect ending to a perfect series

I first started reading the light novels after the end of season two finished so I could find out what happened after the anime , and I've finally finished the last book. I couldn't have hoped for a better ending to Lawrence and holo's story....yes the last part does feel a bit rushed but the ending is still satisfying , if you've read all the other light novels in the series you'll enjoy this one :)

O título é autoexplicativo. O volume 17 consiste em explicar o que houve com alguns outros personagens ao longo da série e esclarecer com mais detalhes sobre o que ocorreu depois do final da aventura, além de algumas histórias paralelas. Apesar da aventura dos protagonistas terminarem no volume anterior, vale a pena conferir esse e ter um final mais completo além de alguns extras na história.

Ein schöner Abschluss für eine noch schönere Serie. Ich denke Spice and Wolf wird mir noch sehr lange im Gedächtnis bleiben. Und es war sicher nicht das letzte mal das ich die Serie gelesen und geschaut habe. Nun fehlt nurnoch eine 3. Staffel der Anime Adaption welche die Serie wie im Manga zum Ende führt.

It's a Spice and Wolf book. What's not to love!
