Surfside Scramble fun, compact and fast!
Family time during the holidays, we all love word games and have played Apple Letters, Bananagrams and other word games. This is a fun game which has a lot of strategy and counting of words, but would be good for kids who are learning to spell as well.More complicated with rules than the other two, still very fun and compact, easy to learn in a couple of minutes and each round onlytakes a couple of minutes. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes more challenging and strategic. This one is a keeper foreasy vacation or family time fun.

Surfside Scramble Splashes with Waves of Success
Games and family just go together, and I am thrilled to add this one to our collection. Some word games are slow, monotonous, and permanently support the bottom level of the precariously stacked games in the closet. Surfside Scramble is NOT one of those. My teenagers loved it, but I am a second grade teacher and I decided to test my new game with my students. It was a huge success and a group of students has played it at recess everyday since. To them, it is a fun game. To me, it is an activity which challenges them cognitively. They are forced to use hypothetical thinking, consider multiple strategies simultaneously, and even evaluate their choices as they go along to see if their strategy should change. I love hearing them discover that there are often several smaller words inside of larger ones and even sharing with each other how adding a suffix or blend would make their word longer--Yes, this is happening at recess!I also love that this game is versatile and suitable for kids or adults without requiring a Scrabble dictionary. Controlling your own play is also a plus. You are not dependent on an opponent's word choice. This game is a definite must for the Christmas list!
