Q: Is 10" of underground depth enough? I would think you need 24" to keep it secure.

This is a well-made birdfeeder stand and I love it, however your question is right on. No, 10"is not enough. I put mine into hard clay soil. First thunderstorm knocked it over. I took it out, dug down a foot, placed the stand down in the hole, stood on the prongs, added 20 lbs of river rock and soil on top and tamped it down . Now it's holding.

Q: Can you adjust the height?

The pole comes in 3 pieces and you can leave off one section, thus reducing the height by about 20 inches. But then the squirrels wouldn't have to climb the pole; they could reach your feeders from the ground! We're going to get a squirrel baffle to keep the squirrels off the pole and feeders. I love this multi-hanger pole!
