Good and strong but delivery takes forever

Good bits: well designed and made spool, great balearm and solid build.Bad points: I bought this as an upgrade for my Shimano Alivio 6000 reel but really, it was a sideways move or downgrade at best. The shimano is overall better made, smoother with a nicer action and feels far more premium! It is equally as well made too.When spooling line on for the first time, and winding against resistance, there was definite graunching from something rubbing within the gear train and line lay was not very even. I tried the various thrust washers supplied but there was little difference save for the balance of front or rear loading on the spool.I really expected more of Pen and simply cannot recommend this reel which is out classed by some at half the cost.Save your money and buy a Shimano Alivio or Ultegra 5000 or 600 instead. They're better made, smoother in operation, deploy more even line lay and are a pleasure to use.A waste of close on £75 for what is no better than a £35 reel. I won't be touching Pen again and instead will stick with Shimano or Diawa. They know how to make a precision reel for far less money.

Choose this for spinning. The finest reel in my armoury by far and not the most expensive. I was after a 2500 but the 4000 was cheaper. I am blown away with this reel and price.I’m choosing Penn from this day forward.

I bought this to replace a broken Okuma that only lasted a short time. Penn reels never disappoint and this is no exception. Nice large handle, copes with braid well really good reel.

The whole product works smoothly, and I am more than happy with this Penn fishing reel. I have just got into fishing and read up on this brand. so, all is good
