Etching
This book was recommended by a teacher of mine at the Art Institute. The inquiry was for further study of the various printing mediums available to artists. This book details styles and techniques used in older times as standard press practices, but, maintained today for use by artists around the world to make multiples of their original artwork.Awesome read, and techinical enought to provide the means to apply the knowledge.Highly recommended

Etching - the most accessable guide
I found this book led me gently through the techniques required to produce the finest prints. It is well illustrated, showing not only the more traditional black line on white paper but also complex colourful images. Step by step photographs show how individual processes should be carried out. It is written in the simplest of langauge - without being either patronising or condesending. This simple use of language, along with the examples shown and step by step photographs, should enable anybody to understand the process's involved to produce etchings.

Amazing book for those who are serious about etching
This book not only talks about a variety of ethmching techniques but also talk about the editions stage of etching as well as the various acid ratios for various metals such as zinc, aliminium, copper and steel. Unlike crown point press: the magical secret about aquatint it doesn’t cover soap ground and reverse aquatint. Would recommend this book for those who are serious about making a living out of etching. Alan Smith has some serious experience in the creative industry.

Buy it
I have many books now on etching and this is the one I return to all the time. It contains all the information you need to etch and is very well presented and illustrated on good quality paper. I have found that as with many subjects there is much to be gleaned from a variety of books and where etching is concerned there are many other tips and techniques which artists impart in their own particular books. However, if a choice has to be made on just one to buy then in my opinion this would be it.

Just what I wanted
Brilliant. Exactly what I was looking for - a no nonsense book written by a professional that is easy to follow. I just want a reminder of how I did different processes forty years ago. Has good tips on technique and handling materials which I had forgotten.

misleading
I'm very dissapointed by this book as it has no etching skills with pencil and about the techinique of etching an image with the process to go about it. Mainly about the printing tecniques and of which the imagery is terrible and does not inspire me into this line of work
