Mother

Gorky has become one of my favorite writers. This, after reading his autobiography. He was a mentor and protector of Isaac Babel, in addition to other progressives.“Mother” follows the gradual awakening of a woman to her inner and political power.

This is my favorite book. I read it in another language but have been looking for an english translation that was as good in expression as the translation. This is perfect and the price was unbeatable. It was in very good condition, just looked a bit old but the book did not have any wear and tear or markings on it.

Very difficult to read due to the formatting. I ended up just reading the ebook from project Gutenberg, which this was just a printed-out version of.

A magnificent historical novel concerning the grim fate of those few people who speak out against thuggish authority! This book should be read by people throughout the world. "Churches in the towns were filled with silver and gold for which God had no use..." Class struggles---Wisconsin in 2011--are paralleled by events in Russia a century ago. Substitute "teachers" or unionized EMS, police, and other state employees for the word "proletariat."

I had read all Gorky writings in school back at the former Soviet Union. This book misrepresents Russian reality before Soviet revolution. It is very dangerous because it is believable and good written. It also worth to remember that Gorky himself became a victim of the monster he help to create .

This book, which claims to be "unabridged", is only 148 pages. If its really "unabridged" then the printing must be nano-sized! I wouldn't buy any book ever from CreateSpace.

Don't bother with this kindle version - the translation is virtually incomprehensible. I regret even the 0.99cts I spent buying it!!

I first read 'Mother' back in the late 1960's. The title has lodged in my mind although not the context.I now know why I found it so gripping.

The quality of book is excellent , good quality paper and the story is amazing !
