DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Peru Paperback – July 16, 2012

I am a loyal DK guidebook user - have been buying them for years for destinations all over the world.I love the layout and colorful pictures. Cities are color-coded and divided into easily followable neighborhoods and tourist destinations.We travelled to Lima, Cusco, around the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. We found the information a bit limited for the Sacred Valley in the book in terms of descriptions. I recommend getting a separate book just on Machu Picchu to supplement your Peru travel book.My friend had her Fodor's Peru book with her. The one plus her Fodor's book had over my DK was much more detailed restaurant recommendations per city/ neighborhood. DK has very limited restaurant recommendations. All the ones we tried from Fodor's turned out to be good.

I really like the DK Eyewitness guides; I used one for Spain and was very happy with it. It reads easily and the photos and graphics make it much more interesting than the typical guide books. It goes into great detail for the top highlights, which helps you determine what areas you want to concentrate your time. I really like the historical overview at the beginning, which is interesting and concise so that you don't get bogged down in details. I also like how they break down each region and make it very easy to focus on the area in which you will be traveling.

I am a big fan of DK Eyewitness Travel Guide series. I used many of them when I traveled to Europe. But, I do not like this particular book on Peru. It lacks critical information in terms of finding ways to destinations where such information is most desired. It has nice illustrations as well as concise descriptions of subject matters, but often omits essential information, such as how to get there. I would recommend this book as an entertainment or even a rough introduction, but cannot recommend it as a travel guide. There are better options. If the title did not say "Travel Guide" I would have given 4 stars. It is still an enjoyable book to browse.

Eagerly anticipating my upcoming trip to Peru, and bought this for some visual eye candy. I love the format of the DK books, although they are a little heavier than is ideal, when you are actually traveling. I usually use TripAdvisor for planning, but nothing can replace a book in your hands when you're itching to learn more

Dk publishing is my only travel companion I read, best accurate and easy to read information with lots if colorful photos to complete my curiosity! I d like to read this book before I book my travel package, it helps me to creat a complete tour with ideas I never thought possible! Great books, I bring them with me on all my trips, if I don't have a room for it, photocopy the maps and important things I want to see!

As usual, the DK books are full of beautiful tidbits and photos - just to whet your appetite without being hit over the head. It's an easy book to carry but doesn't give alot of details. If you want specifics and alot of information, this is not the book for you.

I love DK Eyewitness Travel Guides!! We have travelled throughout Europe and are taking our first trip to South America. They give all of the important information and use photos to reinforce what they are saying. From photos of currency to meals and museums, these books have it all!! The book is easy to navigate and easy to carry in a day pack. If I could get one of these for every location, I would!!

I buy them all prior to every trip. Come to rely on the wonderful insights and history presented in the DK series of travel books. This one was no disappointment. Read the history, studied every place that we were going and as a result wasted no time while there. It saved time, prevented getting lost, and allowed a greater appreciation of exactly what we were seeing. Never travel without your DK book - never.

Not a bad guide gave me the info overview I needed on my tour of Peru. These guides are full of pics and maps and are easy to use.

Love DK Travel Books, always very helpful. This is our dream trip. The experience will be optimized by using this book for planning.
