Q: I can't figure out why mine always resets to zero if I don't use it for a while?

Its supposed to turn off, and reset to zero after a period on non use. The top reading will reset to zero, the bottom reading will not, and is cumulative.

Q: Has anyone tried using it to measure the water used in showering? It looks like it might be able yo attach between shower wall pipe& shower head.

If you're thinking of placing in hard plumbing, I'ld forget it. For the money, lets face it. It's not of high quality nor percise. 25 gallons on it is more like 28 to 30 gallons. For what I use it for, I get-a-long just fine. Hope this helps anyone out that's interested.

Q: Is it safe to use to monitor drinking water usage?

Safe? ABSOLUTELY... This is what we, basically, use this item for. I connect this to my motorhome as I'm filling my freshwater tank so I know how much water I'm putting into the system. TYPICALLY, I only want to carry a small amount of water while drive (say 10 gallons) and then fill up when I get to my destination. This makes it ***VERY EASY*** to know what I've put into my tank!

Q: How do you turn it off?

The meter is based on flow only and does not have an "on-off" valve. You have to turn it off at the faucet or you could install a simple ball valve prior to the inlet of the meter and use that to control flow. It does not have an automatic "flow" shut off.
