Linda's first big role
Love this movie. An outlaw born in the wrong century and a down on her luck country gal. Features former Christian con artist Gartner.

Muscle cars!
I bought it specifically for the cars (theres a nice looking Charger in there too). The movie is your basic 70s plot (wrong doing main character with female side kick, running from the Law) Not a bad movie, for the time.

Before Wonder Woman...
Before Lynda Carter got that phone call informing her she'd be America's favorite bullet-deflecting, satin tight wearing super she-ro, she starred in this cheapie flick produced by American International Studios. This outfit basically produced every exploitation flick from the 69s and 70s; back then they were mainly shown in drive-ins, usually as double features, where teen audiences were not so discriminating (for obvious reasons). Bobbie Jo and the Oulaw is a perfect example of this particular strain of cheapie - in 1976, fast cars, drugs and boobs were necessary ingredients, and thanks to films like Bonnie and Clyde and Robert Altman's Thieves Like Us, rebel outlaws were too. And one other element was rising in popularity - the small-bit country singer who's got his/her sight on being a star. Here that's represented by Lynda Carter, who gets a chance to showcase her singing chops, albeit just briefly. So the plot is nothing at all special, but here's a quick recap: Lyle Wheeler (Marjoe Gortner), who fancies himself a fast draw in the tradition of Billy the Kid, swipes the car of a leather salesman, and from there takes the life of an outlaw, beguiling a fresh faced drive-in waitress named Bobbie Jo (Carter) in the process. One act of crime leads to another, and before long, the duo become a fivesome, now including Bobbie's best friend Essie (Belinda Balaski), sister Pearl (Merrie Lynn Ross), and Pearl's boyfriend Slick (Jessie Vint). The band vows to defend each other to the death, with the exception of Essie, who notifies the cops of their whereabouts; she gets shot by the cops in the ensuing crossfire, strengthening the rest of the group's resolve to continue their criminal ways. Of course, it all comes down to a standoff in a motel room - the cops have the place surrounded, and riddle Lyle and his gang with bullets. Only Bobbie survives... maybe she'll get to the Grand Ol' Opry after all.Loaded with clichés and rife with pretty low production values, Bobbie is, nonetheless, surprisingly entertaining for its ilk, in part because its writing is fairly crisp and convincing, and well-acted to boot. Lyle's character feels fresh and interesting, despite being based on so many other film archetypes - his actions come with mantra - from his attitude toward stealing and killing (only in self defense, otherwise it's evil) to death itself, evidenced by his eulogy for Essie. Carter also does an interesting job transforming her character from one of goo-eyed adoration for Lyle, to skepticism of his shady ways, to addiction to their lifestyle together and ultimate glee for the crimes she helps commit. If the film has any major flaw, it's probably the absence of a rooting interest. The film does seem to side with Lyle, as the cops tend to be brutal pigs whereas Lyle does have a vague moral code. But quite frankly I wanted him captured pretty early on. Part of the brilliance in Bonnie and Clyde was the way it got you to like these two bank robbers, and then pull the rug out from under you when they perish in a hail of gunfire at the end (still a shocker). All right, all right - by now you're wondering, how are Lynda Carter's nude scenes. Just remember this was still 1976, so they didn't go too far (this isn't Skinemax after all). There is one darkly-lit shot of topless lovemaking, but you see it only from the side, and only briefly. (Evidently they could only get Carter to do this once, so they literally used the same shot again later in a different scene.) So in a nutshell: only fair. But for my money it's Balaski who puts in a better show. Not only does she do the lion's share of nudity (especially in the "magic mushroom" skinny-dipping scene), but she plays a delightfully appealing, quirky character that presages some of her later film work, particularly that with director Joe Dante. This may be a tough film to find, but if you can locate it, it's worth 86 minutes of your time, if for nothing else than as a trip back in time. Afternoon delight, anyone?

It's the most hilariously low rent Max Max imaginable, with Lynda Carter's tits
My dear friends who are across the country recommended this glorious American International film with the description of "It's the most hilariously low rent Max Max imaginable, with Lynda Carter's tits." She was right. It is!This is Lynda Carter in all her kitschy glory even singing country music inbetwixt love scenes in the New Mexico desert. If one "kept waiting for the Lasso of Truth to come out" then one will be disappointed. None of that. This is 1970s Billy The Kid melded with Bonnie and Clyde set in Southwestern USA splendor. "The ketchup flying out of the bullet wounds were classic" don't disappoint either. It's cheese factor is high and shouldn't detract from the movie. Watch this movie and thank Lynda Carter afterward.

Classic 70's Movie!
Seriously, what's not to like! Lynda Carter, Marjorie Gortner and the best perm West of the Pecos, car chases, shootouts, the best closing line ever!!! A BLAST to watch! Did I mention that Lynda Carter is in? Her smile alone is enough to watch the film and I say that in a non-creepy way. Enjoy!

Good Girl Gone Bad!
Yes, I bought this because of Lynda Carter. I'm not gonna lie! With that said, my attention was really just on her and her character. And, I must say, if you didn't know that she will become the icon that she is, you would agree that this actress has potential. Look at the expression on her eyes, when her friend dies in her arms. While all the other actors are lumps of wood, Ms. Carter's reaction provides all the emotions of the scene.Yes, she's a looker, that much has already been well established. But, she also sings! According to the commentary, she was the one who actually wrote the song. This was not a terribly big budget film, and sets were not designed and built to pre-planned specifications, as they are today. The film crew would just drive around and when they find a good site to shoot, then that's where they would shoot the scene. The Native American, in the pond with the actors while they were all nude, was really just a guy the crew found while driving around. Film-making back in 1975 was so different. The movie was a homage to old Westerns. The character, Lyle, fancies himself a gunslinger and an Outlaw, a la Jessie James. He even carries around a book of old Western outlaws and periodically quotes from it. A feud, of sorts, starts between him and the local sheriff. Robberies and gun fights ensues. Bobbie Jo, Lynda Carter's character, clearly was not made for this life, but finds it fascinating and accompanies "The Gang" on robberies. Although, she is way too polite to the hostages that they held up at gunpoint. We're all used to seeing Lynda Carter as a Good Girl. It may shock a few of her fans to see her, spit at a police officer. Shocking! Most shocking indeed. The Blu-ray version of the film has very noticeable grain and can be distracting at times, particularly the indoor scenes. The dialogue seems dry and unexpressive, by today's standards. If you are purchasing this film for the sole purpose of seeing Lynda Carter in the nude, you will likely be disappointed. But, if you are willing to consider an honest critique of a young actress at the start of her career, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Reasonable blu ray restoration
Considering the movie’s budget probably as good as the restoration will get. A drive in movie if its time.

Not a great movie
I purchased the NTSC dvd which arrived safely in a factory sealed package. There were no problems with playback asmy region 2 dvd player is compatible with region 1 discs.I have read that this movie seems to be considered a cult classic in certain quarters, but to my mind the plot was not particularly believable and the ending was extremely predictable. As a vehicle for Lynda Carter it did her no favours at all. I have little doubt that it is her 'topless' scenes which have made the movie sell, and even these scenes are not particularly memorable, clear or vivid. Her co-star Merrie Lynn Ross seems far more at ease bare-chested whereas poor Lynda always seems to have a knee or elbow strategically placed to foil the camera. In conclusion this movie is eminently forgettable and is one for die hard fans of the main cast members only.

Too grainy.
One of the worst buys for me this year. My copy of Bobbie Jo was very grainy and in my opinion, for what they charged, definitely not worth the money. My guess is that no effort was made to restore, but a fair effort went into putting the extras on the disc. Wait for a cheaper version.
