Somewhere between The Rocketeer, The Spirit and The Spider: The Twilight Avenger stands alone.
First of all; a bit of history. The Twilight Avenger was first conceived as a three-issue mini-series featuring a criminal overlord known as "The Centipede" and in full color. The first issue was published by Elite comics during the black and white boom of 1985 and it was in full - but very sketchy - color. The second issue was published by Elite as a black and white (just before the company folded). Then a regular series was published by Eternity Comics which lasted for 8 issues. The conclusion of the original three issue series was not published by Eternity but they did advertise a soon-to-come TPB collection that would complete the "Centipede" story...however that was never published. Instead in the early 1990s Terry Tidwell, through his "Miracle comics" outfit, published the "Twilight Avenger Special" which was the single issue conclusion to the original series. As for the story itself; it is pure pulp-fictional joy! Just very well done all around. Tidwell is an artist's artist. No rob Liefeld-esque half-assed absurdities here. Wooley is a writer who knows and truly loves the genre he works in. In my opinion the regular series issues (there were 8 published by Eternity) were superior to the original series collected here but this TPB is astoundingly good! Itwould be worth the price just to have the entire series in one volume but this also includes some very cool pieces within. This collection by Pulp 2.0 Press collects the entire original series (3 issues, not "4" as I have seen some on here claim) and also features some very entertaining and informative articles by Wooley. And for the first time ever the original penciled pages from the original Twilight Avenger concept are printed! Trust me that you do not want to miss out on this.

You'll feel grit in your teeth and hear the stirring theme song
The Twilight Avenger is a welcome addition to the pulp legacy. Set in an eerie and fascinating spot, Oklahoma(!) in the Dust Bowl, the TA combines everyday grit and worry about the next meal against the Lovecraftian concepts of lonesome wastes and spoiled millionaires acting as debauched nobility. Along comes the TA with the best character design since the Rocketeer, his sad origin, his determined response, and interesting choice of weapons and tactics. Throw in the "sassy girl reporter" and wise mentor and you've got a formula for a 1930's movie-house serial that will have little kids and adults on their edges of their seat. Be sure to stick around for the next-hoped-for volume of the TA's wild adventures fighting crime, poverty, and evil on the gray-dusted prairie.

Twilight Avenger To The Rescue!
I never heard of the Twilight Avenger until Pulp 2.0 put out this volume reprinting the first four issues of the original comic from the 80's. Along with excellent reproduction of the original inked pages, the book contains plenty of extras, some of which is being printed for the first time. Like Pulp 2.0's previous efforts I have purchased in the past (Knight Watchman Golden Age and Thunder Girl Digest), this volume is lovingly-crafted with the care and attention to detail that bespeaks the publishers genuine love for the material. Top that off with a reasonable price, and you have a quality addition to your graphic novel library.

....appearing next week at this Theatre!!
I admit I was anticipating this book – a Pulp 2.0 release of a short lived miniseries from the mid 1980’s as I had really enjoyed John Woolley and Terry Tidwell’s other series: “The Miracle Squad” – also available from Pulp 2.0 here on Amazon and well worth any comic fan’s time.“Miracle Squad” was a beautifully executed slice of fun Pulp comics’ action and the “Twilight Avenger” is no less although this time the emphasis is different even though at first sight it may look like more of the same.Basically “The Twilight Avenger” is possibly the closet comics has gotten to a period Movie Serial within the pages of a comic or indeed a trade paperback. For once the cover blurb does not lie.Wooley and Tidwell orchestrate all the necessary familiar elements ie the hero, the benevolent scientist, plucky reporters, the ( hooded! ) villain, gangsters, gunfights, kidnappings, car chases together with “cliff hanger” chapter endings. If you are familiar with the genre than you will recognise how the above are all vital components. In addition there is lovely sense of period detail in the art and dialogue. What I did reflect on after reading was how much I liked the main three characters that the creators skilfully etch in with seemingly a minimum of “screen” time and dialogue , a considerable achievement given the familiar Movie Serial elements listed above that are required to make the story work.Beautiful storytelling and I am looking forward to the next volume already.Typically Pulp 2.0’s presentation and packaging is impeccable (most of the art is hot form the original pages I believe) and sets a standard that, frankly others cannot match – which is amazing given the price for this book and indeed all their releases ( www.pulp20hpress.com ).So this time around there is a fascinating article on the creation of the series complete with the original presentation art, Wooley and Tidwell’s trials in the Independent Comic boom ( and bust ) of the 1980’s which is both entertaining and candid, an excellent Pulp Style Prose tale of the Avenger ( more – please!) plus the creators cast their “Twilight Avenger” Movie Serial ( of course it’s a ” Miracle Studios” release! ) with period stars and show the reader the faux photo lobby cards.Highly recommended and really at this price it is a steal – just hope the ‘Avenger doesn’t feel your collar for taking advantage!!
