Q: The couplers are historic and not functional? Can you still connect passenger cars to the engine? Cost to convert couplers?

The locomotive has a scale dummy knuckle coupler on the front. The tender has a standard Rapido type coupler on the tender and will couple to any car using the same. Changing the front coupler would be challenging. The tender a bit easier, but would require some skill. The passenger set I purchased for this set is Kato 10-1344. It has four cars prepared for interior lighting if you wish to add it. One of the cars has red tail lights installed. I don't know the exact cost for changing the tender coupler, but would guess it would be around $10.00 to $25.00 IS depending on the tools you have available. It will require small drill, tap, screw, coupler, and possibly a shims. This is based on the installation of a Micro Trains coupler.

there is no English version of the instructions, you have two options to replace the coupler: take the model to your nearest Kato dealership to have them replace it, or try doing it yourself.
