Looks good but smells awful
Original Review May 2016: I purchased this because I foster dogs and the rescue I work with specializes in Rottweilers and Pit Bulls so sometimes we get really big dogs. I wanted something that would look good in my living room while still giving ample space for a large dog to lie down. It was also important for me to get a product with a removable cover so I could wash it between animals. Most of this dog bed is really good. The removable cover looks really nice and had a nice texture, and the bottom part is slightly water resistant (as in, when a dog peed on the hardwood floor right next to the bed I was able to pick the bed up and the pee hadn't soaked into the foam at all, and my current dog chews and licks his toys on it and the microfiber dries easily without staining). This bed blends in well with nicer furniture and isn't visually obnoxious, which I really like. I removed and washed the cover once and it seems to have held up. There were some wrinkles from being squished into the box and washing it softened those, and now that the bed is getting use the wrinkles have come out of the fabric. My only complaint about the bed is the smell when you first open it - it smells absolutely awful. It takes a good few days to air out, so if you can, buy this during the nicer weather months when you can leave windows open to let the chemically smell dissipate. I would recommend opening the box outside if you can and removing the foam inner from the liner and airing it all out for at least a few days when you first get it (the foam is the part that smells, so be sure to remove the inner padding from the cover to really let air get to this, just taking the bed out of the box isn't enough). The smell is much less offensive (pretty much gone) now that the bed has aired out and been used, but I do wonder about health concerns/issues and the off gassing of this product (which I think would be similar to any other memory foam product).I first gave this bed 3 stars because of the smell, but I'm actually considering buying another smaller one for the dog crate because I really like it. It looks great, my current pup loves it (56 lb boxer/rottie mix) and is holding up well so far, so I've upgraded my review to 4 stars and I would give it 5 if it were not for the terrible smell at first.Update January 2017:Even though this bed has been used daily from July until recently, we had to throw it out this week. Our boxer/rottie, up to 62 lbs (he's filling out and putting on muscle) recently had his only accident due to atypical circumstances and peed straight through the bed. If this bed gets soiled, there is no way to clean it. I contacted the manufacturer for advice, and they suggested spot cleaning, which does not work if the spill penetrates the surface. I tried taking out the memory foam and airing it out, spraying it with pet odor removing enzymes and sprinkling a baking powder and oxygen based powder pet odor absorber on it. I left the foam spread thin on towels for five days, alternating treatments, and could not get the smell out. Because the Amazon price for the bed is reasonable, we decided to keep the cover and toss the guts (we can put pillows in the cover or keep it as a 2nd cover for another bed). I am not sure if we will be replacing it with the same bed or something different. After having had this bed for 9 months and in 6 months of constant use, I can say its a good bed for the price you pay on Amazon. I checked other beds at the pet store and they cost more and don't look nearly as nice as this one. This bed is one of the nicest looking pet beds I have seen and goes really well with contemporary furniture. It is well made, with even, solid stitching and attention to detail, and the cover is microsuede so it is an elegant looking material that can be removed and machine washed and dried. The cover is durable enough for a non-destructive pet (our dog chewed his Nylabone and toys on this bed, ran across it while chasing his Kong in the house, and slept on it every night) but will get very faint stains on it over time and ours ended up with a 1 inch rip on the surface. If your dog likes to chew beds it will certainly destroy this one in no time, but if your dog respects your furniture this bed can certainly handle slightly dirty paws and saliva. This bed will slide easily across a hardwood floor - our dog crashed it into our side tables and knocking things over a few times when he ran over it while chasing a toy. Some other Brindle beds claim to have a non-slip texture on the bottom of the bed, but this one does not. The inside memory foam is in four compartments separated by baffles but the individual shredded pieces vary in size and are nearly impossible to clean - the manufacturer does not recommend it. It is like opening a box full of styrofoam packing peanuts and then trying to shove them all into a pillowcase. I feel bad throwing it out, but it is really not salvageable. In summary:PROS:Best looking dog bed I have found, goes great with contemporary furniture, does not look obnoxiousCover cleans up easily and is removable and machine washable, low pile microsuede texture doesn't trap dirt (but will hold fine dog hairs)Well cushioned and comfortable, our dog loved this bed and it supported his 62 pounds without issueDurable enough for repeated use by a dog that doesn't chew his/her bedsWell made, solid stitching and detailed constructionGood value for money, Amazon price is reasonableCONS:Terrible odor when you first unpack the bed, odor dissipates after airing the bed outCannot handle large spills, the bed interior is impossible to clean, no waterproofingSlippery on smooth floors, lacks non-slip bottom surfaceNot chew proof, would be easily destroyed by a dog that likes to chew bedsMaterials are not biodegradable, recyclable, or environmentally friendly, so if you have to throw the bed out, it will sit in a landfillUpdate May 2018: We ended up buying a second version of this bed, and it did not fluff up as much as our previous bed. Our dog never seemed to like it as much and didn't seem as comfortable on it as he did his first bed. We recently threw out the second bed because of the cleaning issue. I periodically removed the bed cover to machine wash it, but there is no way to clean the interior of this bed and it just smelled like dog. We actually have a very clean dog that doesn't have a strong doggy smell at all, and he would lie down on this bed after a bath and just smell more doggy than he had 10 minutes ago. I tried putting deodorizing spray and powder on it and letting it sit in the sun hoping the UV light would kill some bacteria, but it still just smelled like concentrated dog. The final straw was when there was a spill that soaked through the cover and into the memory foam. Note: If you catch a spill (or pee or vomit) right away it will bead off, but if it has the chance to sit for any length of time it will soak through rather quickly. Once something gets past the cover, you just can't get it out of the bedding material. Also, we ended up having two covers for the bed and at some point one of the covers got pretty mangled in our washing machine (it's a high efficiency side load washer), I'm not really sure why. We've never had our washer damage any other items, including down sleeping bags, performance clothing, lingerie, and other more fragile materials. Even though we really loved the look of this bed (it went so well with our decor) we really can't justify buying another one. I'd rather buy a bed I can wash that will last more than a year than continually buy this bed and throw memory foam into a land fill every time this bed starts to stink. This bed looks great but just isn't well suited to long term use unless you don't mind dog smell and nothing ever spills on the bed.I originally gave this bed three stars, then upgraded it to four stars, and have now dropped my review back down to three stars.

My dog loves it!
My Saint Bernard/ Labrador Retriever loves her new bed. That is when she's not in mine lol 🤣. It is very plush and soft, I cannot rate the ease of cleaning just for the fact I haven't had a reason to wash it just yet. We use it In out truck as well when she wants to ride so she can have a comfortable place to lay and sit while not wreaking havoc on my truck seats! I would definitly recomend

My Rottweilers love this bed!
My dogs love this bed!!! Although, there 10 months old. They did get a hold of the zipper one night and rip it and then Shredded 1/2 of the bed. But, they loved it so much, I bought another one and they haven't chewed it yet. There's not much a 110 pound 10 month old can't chew if they really wanted to. I'd buy it again!

Good Quality. Excellent fit.
So far my dog isn't interested in chewing the bed, but she can get through anything if she's attracted to it.

my house doesn't smell like dog
My question after owning 104 dog beds: can I wash the cover over and over and over, and will the interior retain it's density? Yes! Dog loves it because it's cushy and comfy. I love it because my house doesn't smell like dog. I chose the medium size so Beagle can stretch out and watch her favorite tv shows and she was so pleased with it, she asked that I order another for her crate. The medium is a snug fit for the crate but works great. The thickness of the cushion has certainly made a difference in how she's able to get up after lying for a long period of time. Again, and most importantly, I can keep it clean. The cover can be easily vacuumed and unzipped for washing. Pet owner tip: Walgreens sells hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle that you can use to spray the foam interior--or anything for that matter--and it will invariably remove any pet smell. Urine, poop, nondescript pet stink, whatever. Seriously, it's the best kept secret. Doesn't discolor. Doesn't just cover up. Anyway, spray the foam bed, and by the time the cover comes out of the dryer, you won't even remember you have a teenager. I mean a dog. Who's bath time is the responsibility of your 17 year-old. Who's like having a second dog. Don't judge me. Kids are hard.Update: 2+ years and the bed inserts are still fluffy and the washable cover is still fully functioning. I expected the zipper to retire itself at some point, but no. I'm utterly impressed with this product. I have two of these beds. Both covers have been washed at least once a week for over two years. No seam tears, no fraying at the zipper. On another note, said teenager discussed in my original review, who is now 19 and a college sophomore was just home for break. Genius leaves a bag of M&Ms, a sandwich, and a Costo-size bag of Doritos in the living room while venturing back into the kitchen because he needed a 2nd Dr Pepper--after two Mountain Dews (Bad Mom award. I've simply given up the food battle. He's 6'3 and has the physique of an olympic athlete so he's believes he's invincible. I don't know if I'm disgusted or envious). Now, if you don't have a hound, you will never understand that you cannot leave food unattended for even a second. Beagle ate the candy, ate the chips, and finished off the Mountain Dew. I mean, why would one throw away a mostly empty cans of soda on his way back into the kitchen? Oh, and she clearly savored both the sandwich and the delicious signature-stamped tissue it was wrapped in. This took less than 45 seconds. What happened 30 minutes later was that of a crime scene because Genius decided to jail the dog in her crate for behavior unbecoming and head upstairs. I'll refrain from graphic details, but bed was duck taped closed inside of an industrial strength garbage bag and sent directly to the trash. Replacement ordered without hesitation. Posting another photo of Beagle after she'd plead guilty and suffering a binge hangover on her two year-old bed. And yes, you better believe I made Genius clean up the mess. Messes. Plural. For three days. "MOM! I need help! MOM!" Nope. Not a two person job, kid. Good Mom award.

Truly great dog bed!
This dog bed is wonderful! I read several reviews on this product and I have to say I would agree with most of the other reviewers thoughts on this bed, which I think speaks volumes on the consistency of quality and design. If I were to summarize what the most repetitive comments are in the reviews, it'd be something like: "Love the bed, love the quality and look of it, love how easy it is to clean, the dog loved it right away, so comfortable people lay on it with the dog (or without), we bought another one almost immediately".The long of it: We have a French Bulldog, Stella, who recently had surgery so we were looking for a comfortable yet supportive bed for her during recovery. This product fit the bill exactly for us. Stella went to this bed immediately to lay down and spends most of the day resting on it. It's worth mentioning that while we have tried in the past to have her become a dog who sleeps on a dog bed, she always ended up on our bed or the couch. Now, she sleeps the entire night on this bed! That did it for us, we were so blown away that she was actually using it that we bought a second one about 2 weeks after the first - one for upstairs, one for downstairs. She loves it so much, so we are thrilled with our purchase(s) and felt the need to share this feedback to anyone considering this dog bed. Also, feel the need to reiterate what the other reviewers have said about the negative reviews. This bed has quality construction and would probably fare pretty well against some light chewing (compared to less expensive options), but it is by no means indestructible. In my opinion, it is unreasonable to give it a one star rating simply because your dog chewed through it. The second most stated negative review is that people have put the entire bed into the wash and destroyed it. The product comes with instructions that very clearly tell you NOT to put the insert into the wash and to only wash the removable cover. So yes, if you know your dog to be a chewer, if you have a puppy that is teething or potty training and you're worried you won't be able to clean it if your dog has an accident, then this probably is not the right bed for your dog, otherwise do not put much stock in these reviews when making your decision.

Reasonable product for the price
Initially, the bed was really hard because there is too much stuffing; however, I open the zipper and remove some of the stuffing and it fit better into the kennel and the dogs found him more comfortable.I always put the interior padding into a plastic bag and seal it and then I put the exterior cover on dog beds. No idea why but my seven-year-old dog wet the bed the second night. I removed the cover and it washed up really well. Glad I had the plastic covering on the interior part!

Not for puppies or accident prone dogs
This dog bed is definitely good quality, but is it worth the price? I don’t think so.I wish I had read the product description a bit better because I quickly found out that this bed is not waterproof, nor water resistant. It also does not have a removable cover and is filled with shredded foam. That means there’s no way to clean the foam inside if it gets soiled, rendering it pretty useless. The bed is made of a nice, durable material, and would ideally be good for an adult dog that isn’t destructive and is already potty trained.
