Fantastic daily/travel pack with excellent materials and features
Awesome pack, hands down. Top loader plus zippered main compartment and external pockets? Check. Stretch bottle pockets, check. YKK water resistant zips with good zipper pulls, check. Duraflex buckles, check! The ballistic material in my opinion feels stiffer and more protective than even 1000d cordura and gives the pack a classier look. I am very impressed with the quality and usability of the Spruce pack. Burton did their homework on this one and it shows.I got the black ballistic nylon which is different than the heather (and 10x the quality of the Annex pack I have, but the price reflects the difference in materials and quality). I was looking for something that had a rucksack like opening but also able to zip closed, with easy access zip pockets and external water bottle carry. The black ballistic is quality material, much like you see on luggage or other travel packs. The tarpaulin bottom is awesome, especially since I took this pack on a trip and had it sitting on various surfaces; nothing got wet or stained on the bottom and it's easy to wipe off! The stretch bottle pockets on each side are essential to me, and these are done very well with the newer stretch material like Osprey or similar (no poor mesh elastic pockets here). The 'first order access'/exterior zipper pockets are extremely useful (top of lid, under-lid fleece lined for phone or glasses, diagonal vertical on front, open slip pocket backed with tarp at the front that can easily hold a small tablet or headphones). I've had many packs from cheaper to higher end like Goruck, and this one takes the cake for being my favorite so far. It's a top loader and half-clamshell hybrid, easy to get into and interior organization is perfect for a 26L pack. Interior has a padded laptop sleeve, tablet sleeve, organization pockets. Worth noting that the pack is one large compartment with organization, plus the external pockets. With the external pockets I didn't miss having 2 separate compartments like most packs have. The straps are firm but very comfortable with a sort of neoprene lining that is easy on the shoulders and adjustable sternum strap. Only downfall would be the back panel is a little warmer without the typical air mesh you see on other packs; but I would buy it again in heartbeat. Ballistic heavy duty nylon, tarp bottom, stands upright when necessary, has structure, easy access, and lifetime warranty from Burton (surprised a snowboard company did so well with this one :)The magnetic buckles to close the lid are well done and easy to operate while being lighter than the fidlocks I've had before. I can cinch the lid down easily and flip the lid open quickly. A bonus is being able to leave the lid unstrapped, as the zippers keep main compartment protected even when the lid isn't pulled down. Plus the 2 compression straps on each side to allow more secured load. I removed the 1" waist belt which I don't feel this pack needs. The Burton logo isn't loud or obnoxious, but isn't as understated as other packs for travel or daily carry. With little info out there on the Burton Spruce pack I wanted to offer my opinion on it after taking a weeklong trip the day after I received it. I took the chance on this backpack and it was well worth it! Hope this helps someone looking at the Spruce pack, which unfortunately is flying under the EDC/travel pack radar. Maybe better as a daily carry, commuter, etc since the clamshell only opens about 2/3 and not completely flat - may be a deal breaker for some.I'll try to add some pictures later and see what size laptop will fit (at least 15.6", 17" may be pushing it).

Super Fan!
God this backpack is phenomenal. I've worn this for almost two years and Burton has replaced this free of charge when the strap started fraying. Such a fan!
